Throughout the year, they offer a variety of engaging activities, making it an enjoyable destination in every season. The winter light show is one of the most impressive I've seen, and they have received multiple nominations for being the best light display in the country. The membership perks, including exclusive member-only nights that allow us to enter for free, make it a great value. I especially love the butterfly garden, so I always make it my first stop whenever it's open. They also host a wide range of events, from plant swaps to cooking classes.
It's a fantastic place to get some fresh air without being too crowded, although that can vary depending on when you visit. We usually go right in the morning, which helps avoid crowds. By the time the winter lights event came around, I felt comfortable letting my boys explore a little bit. Since it wasn’t a new place for them, they didn’t feel overwhelmed at all. I love everything about this garden and its themes. We will definitely be renewing our membership! They also offer discounts for public service members, so be sure to ask about that at the front desk!
My family and I visited during the day since we had out-of-town guests who couldn't make it for the evening Festival of Lights. We thought they would at least get to see the main tree inside the conservatory. When we entered, the tree lights were on, but when we asked the only staff member present to take a group photo, we later noticed she had turned the tree lights off before snapping the picture. As a member attending on free member days (I understand we need to reserve ticket spots), we weren’t attempting to take advantage of anything. Thank you for that experience, employee. Unfortunately, rude staff members have been a recurring issue over the years.
Feast for the tummy as well as the eyes! Vegan offerings in the Garden Cafe are very satisfying beautifully prepared. Children's garden, shaded walkways, private event tea house.
Being a plant lover of course Lewis Ginger Botanical Gardens is one of my favorite places in Richmond! This winter I decided to go and see the light show and it was exquisite! The variety of light displays were very thoughtful and highlighted the gardens. We enjoyed taking photos by the giant Christmas tree and sojourning through the children's garden. I would recommend bundling up as the temperatures tend to drop while you're out having a good time. This is a place for all ages and a great way to spend quality time with friends and family!
