It says on booking.com that the room comes with a complimentary continental breakfast hamper including pastries, cereals and fruit however all we received was an apple, a banana and two boxes of rice crispies. Was an issue with payment through booking.com but was resolved promptly and the manager called me to advise on the issues. Turns out is was a problem with booking.com
I don't understand how this restaurant received 4-star reviews. My wife and I went there for a meal while on holiday in the area. I ordered the fish and chips, but the fish was soggy and the homemade chips were also soggy. My wife ordered the gluten-free fish and chips, but the batter was hard and the fish inside was soggy. It seemed like a frozen fillet, not fresh. We were both disappointed with our meals and regret not sending them back, although I doubt the staff would have been very responsive. Maybe we just picked the wrong night to dine there.
We made a reservation for a Friday night, but were surprised that the restaurant was not too busy. The pub had a nice atmosphere both inside and out, with a pleasant view of fields leading to the church. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but the service was slow. After ordering our drinks, we waited over 30 minutes for someone to take our food order. The food was of good quality, but there were some presentation issues - the fried fish was cooked well but with some skin left on. It was supposed to come with garden peas, but instead came with a side salad. The waitress offered to change it, but this would have caused a longer wait and disrupted our dining times. Another disappointment was the price - it was £14.95, which was higher than the price listed on the website of £11.95. The dessert selection was good, and the profiteroles were enjoyable. We were also bothered by patrons vaping in the bar, which made the experience less pleasant. Overall, the restaurant was a mixed bag - good in some aspects but lacking in others.
What a treat having gluten-free fish and chips alongside friends without dietary needs. Impressive staff. One in the kitchen and one serving very efficiently and with a smile.
What a fantastic place, we stopped on our way to wales, my son is gluten, Sarah and the team were so helpful and supportive. A must to go, the Sunday roast was excellent, you can tell there is a lot of care that goes into the food, which seems harder to find these days. Great job . As soon as we came out the whole family said can we go in the way home.
