Hermosa Beach Yacht Club

HBYC is as good as I remembered; Great burgers and homemade potato chips from real potatoes. This place hasn't changed in 20 years!

Don 't come here wearing Sperry Topsiders with a cardigan thrown over your shoulders. This isn 't that kind of Yacht Club. The Hermosa Beach Yacht Club (HBYC) is exactly what you should expect Hermosa Beach 's Yacht Club to be like considering Hermosa Beach doesn 't have a marina to be docking any Yachts. HBYC is a simple (I 'm being kind here) beer and wine joint. Calling this place a dive bar would fall nothing short of an empty gesture towards flattery. If you 're in the area and want a low key place to grab a pint or schooner of shitty domestic beer this is THE place for you good sir or madam! You may find solace in knowing they do have a few bottled beers, but if you are serious about beer, walk down a few more blocks to Naja 's on the Redondo Beach Pier. What you should come here for is the prime people watching. You can count on the female employees being either scantily clad, drunk or on crack. There is almost always, a token old guy picking up on drunk haggard girls who are drinking wine (why anyone would drink wine here is beyond me). Did I mention there 's a juke box, a couple video games and a collection of terrible pictures all over the walls of what seem to have been the Glory Days of HBYC? Ohhhh... and for good measure, there are a handful of nautical flags strewn about as decor...this is after all the Hermosa Beach Yacht Club!

You know that kind of place where you take your wife and sit down to enjoy a nice quit conversation. Maybe order some wine and cheese. Looking into each other's eyes while talking softly. She giggles and rubs her foot on your leg, with a shy smile. I have no idea where that place is. But this place, HBYC... is badass! This place has all the locals from the neighborhood, enjoying a cold beer in a giant schooner for $7. This place you can hear loud laughter from across the street. This place has an outside area that people kick back on and relax. This place has attractive bartenders that can pour a damn good beer... with just enough head to make you smile. I like this place. Update Now that I have become the Duke, I should introduce the towns people. This is to the best of my knowledge. I do not work there, or do anything more there, than drink beer. Sunday mornings the beautiful Megan works the draft handles. She is funny and knows everybody. And everybody knows her. Great attitude! One of my wife's good friends. Sunday night is Monika. This India princes might have come from Bollywood. She has a site MonikaGaba.com Monday is a lead singer of a punk rock group called Hear Kitty Kitty... And her name of course is Kitty. She has a site hearkittykitty.com They have a new girl. A southern bell named Kristen, from Texas. She is so cool. I just call her new girl. Bond... James Bond... There are two girls from Russia, Veronica and another I can't spell. Veronica is a fitness, runner, healthy type girl. She is so nice. The other Russian girl is also very nice. Lena is another friend of my wife's. There is something cool about an Asian girl in cutoffs and cowboy boots. All the bartenders they hire are aspiring models, singers, and actresses. So they are hot and dress hot. Lots of girls (customers) hate this place. But that is ok because the ones that get over it, have a lot of fun! Update Every time I come here it is a blast. Last weekend I'm talking with Casey on the patio. Raylen and Kurt had the kid pool set up across the street. This cab pulls up and a girl gets out, yells incoming... and throws a perfect spiral. I catch the football and then it was street ball. We all were in the street passing the ball. Having a great time. There were a couple of girls in the bar that came out played with us. I was shocked they could catch. It is like the perfect neighborhood party. I got some fries and passed them around. They have some good food. The cook Henry is the coolest. But you know this small guy could toss a 300lber through the window. He has that look that you don't want to mess with him. But he is really cool. He says hi to everyone and enjoys working there. This really is the funnest bar in Hermosa!

My kind of Yacht Club. The beer is wet. You can get it in a schooner or oversized goblet. The service could be a lot worse and the food is mostly edible. What more could you ask for? They even have an outside patio. Yup!!! Patio. No boats or water views here but plenty of fishy tall tales.

Went there with a big group of guys. They let us take over the back patio and play our own music. They got our orders quick and made sure our beers were all flowing. Great dive bar with an awesome burger! Service is very good and friendly!
