The worst Beatles tribute band I have ever heard. I traveled an hour to get to Palaia. What a wasted trip to my favorite winery. We left in the middle of the 3rd unrecognizable Beatles song. As we were leaving we heard the word, Taxman . Talk about bastardizing a classic Beatles tune. We did spend $21.00 for food and 2 beers. That was the best part. Left and went to Gardiner Brewing Company. We love it there also. And they had good music.
I was a bit hesitant before visiting Palaia; it has more of a cannabis dispensary vibe than that of a traditional winery, and honestly, I think they’d embrace that description. They certainly don't shy away from the hippie love—if someone told me that members of Phish were investors, I wouldn’t be surprised. While this place might not be aiming to compete with Napa anytime soon, if you have a fun group of friends ready for a good time, Palaia offers a solid experience and is arguably one of the most affordable wineries I’ve encountered, especially considering its proximity to some upscale alternatives. My friends and I visited last Saturday around noon. The weather was decent, but I don’t think the sun made an appearance, which may have worked in our favor because the place wasn’t crowded at all—perhaps 15 to 20 other people were there during our visit, and I’m sure they could easily accommodate a lot more. We started our adventure in their Treehouse (which isn’t actually in a tree) and then spent about an hour outside at a picnic table, both locations were comfortable. With a noble designated driver in tow, we felt free to indulge a bit more. Two of us chose the “Mostly Wine” flight, which included five wines and one mead for about $10—a fantastic price in my opinion. My favorite was their rosé, “The Pinkish Floyd” (there’s that Deadhead vibe again), which was sweet but not overpowering. I enjoyed it so much that my friend and I ended up having two more glasses, and in hindsight, I should have gotten a bottle for my wine fridge. However, at the moment, I thought it was more important to grab a shirt that said, "I have the need for mead!" The mead itself was my least favorite; it tasted like spoiled honeycomb. That might be an acquired taste, and I’d be open to trying their flavored meads in the future. Any drink George Washington might have tried has my approval. We also loved one of the reds called Zappa Franc, which had a nice spicy kick to it. Overall, it’s a solid selection of wines, especially for those who prefer sweeter options rather than dry ones. We did a bit of research beforehand and expected the food options to be underwhelming, but thankfully that wasn’t the case. I absolutely loved the “Bred Zeppelin” ($8), which is simply a warm, artisanal round loaf of bread served with delicious olive oil and herbs for dipping. It was fantastic and exemplified how straightforward food can be at a winery—who doesn't love bread and olive oil? How many times have you filled up on bread at an upscale Italian restaurant before the main course? The beauty is in its simplicity. You could easily have a great time here while racking up calories without breaking the bank—all for less than $20, which is impressive in today’s inflationary world. The place does have a slightly rundown feel, though some of that seems intentional; there’s an unapologetically blue-collar aspect to the experience that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I don’t need a Michelin-star restaurant amid the vines to enjoy a winery; I want good wine and a great time. Palaia delivered on both fronts, plain and simple.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere at this restaurant! The live music added a fun touch, and I had a great time dancing and eating. The wine tasting was absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I can’t wait to return!
I had a fantastic time enjoying the outdoor setting. I appreciated that they provided more than just wine options. I tried mead for the first time and was really impressed by its flavor. The menu offered a great variety, and the location was wonderful.
To clarify a previous review, we have consistently charged a $10 cover for big bands and events, and that has always been the case. Additionally, the property is not sold; that information is false and contributes to the spread of rumors. We are OPEN for business.
