The menu is limited, with only three starters and six main dishes, as well as burgers and light bites. We ordered starters and mains, but the service was slow and we had to wait longer than expected for our food. The starters were average, with the soup being decent and the prawn cocktail being just okay. The mains, surf and turf and homemade pie, were both good and came with homemade fries. However, the scampi in the surf and turf was watery in the middle. The prices for the meals were on the higher side, with the surf and turf at £26 and the pie at £15. Overall, while there was nothing terribly wrong with the food, the wait time and quality were not worth the price. I have had better meals at similar prices.
This country pub is a hidden gem! The food is delicious and prepared at home, with a great selection of beers. The atmosphere is relaxing, the setting is lovely, and the owners are wonderful. They go above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. I will definitely be returning!
The gate is back to how it should be run. The draft beers are excellent and the pub is now clean and tidy. The food is great again. Well done to the new landlord and landlady.
Went with family for a meal, 5 of us. All home cooked, beautiful food cooked to perfection for a very good price. Beer is excellent and couldn't do enough for you!
My family and I visit The Gate every Sunday for their roast dinner, which never disappoints. Every dish is home-cooked, including the mashed potatoes. The new owners, Shaun and Ellie, always provide a warm and friendly welcome, especially with the cozy open log fire. Whether you're stopping by for a drink or a meal, you'll definitely enjoy your experience at The Gate.
