Koishiya Ryokan - Hirao

The Ryokan was amazing. It wasn't an issue that the toilets were not in the room. The staff is so friendly and helpful, also minded our safety when we went hiking. Breakfast was great too, good coffee and the sandwiches can be taken to go.

I had a delicious cappuccino for ¥550. Spacious, clean and comfy space, cakes that look delicious, free “soba” (buckwheat) tea and water. You can walk in with shoes. Very nice place for rest, talk and plan your next step. Good wi-fi connection. Credit cards and PayPay accepted.

Would add more than 5 stars if I could. Lovely accommodating staff, sweet spacious traditional ryokan rooms, exceptional breakfast and coffees, shuttles from station and to monkey park. Also I highly suggest their private onsen experience.

All the stuff are friendly and kind. It is a typical Japanese style of accommodation. There is not TV in the room, you have to share toilets and showers(free hot spring baths are within walkingdistance), yet, the tatami rooms are clean and nicely kept, air-conditioning works well, you can use free WiFi which is the most important for travellers.

We had a wonderful experience at Shibu Onsen! The staff was very accommodating with transportation and helpful with providing information. They even organized a trip to Jigokudani park for us and we were able to go skiing at Shiga Kogen another day. Having access to nine different onsens was truly a highlight of our stay. While we had to make our own tatami beds, which added to the fun experience, the only downside was the cold temperatures in the bathrooms.
