2 tourists from Hesse try to go on Saturday evening in Corona Summer 2020 in the North of Baden-Württemberg. All promising restaurants with local cuisine are on the phone. The same: No more space. In addition, the often strongly restricted menu and also the very short opening hours are noticeable. It threatens to become a very sad and hungry first holiday evening. The last attempt: Gasthaus Zum goldenen Hirsch in Hirschberg. Although the internet offered hardly any information about opening hours or menus, the previous reviews were completely fine, and the pictures looked very good. After the many cancellations we also rated here with a fully booked restaurant, but fortunately we were able to arrive at short notice. Whether Hirschberg on the mountain road no longer scares many potential first guests in the tourist bacon belt of Heidelberg or the spicy information about the Internet, the reason for the free capacities does not come to us. On site the first impression is consistently positive: original guest house with character that deserves the compliment “authentic”. Very friendly and accommodating staff and the now accessible handwritten menu, which is particularly surprised by the large selection of drinks. The selection of regional dishes is very harmonious and away from the mass of unity, often found in German locals. The two sides with main dishes as well as the sympathetic explanations on the last page, which refers to the exclusive production of food, convey a very positive picture. From a lady who is the owner and boss, we receive further, current recommendations. We accept this and ordered a mix of menu and recommendations. It takes a little longer than you're used to until the food came. However, given the necessary effort for the self-imposed quality standard, it is fully appropriate. Even before we taste for the first time, we are convinced that there is little less quality. This is confirmed shortly after. All ingredients are as fresh as possible. Entrance and main dish taste wonderful and are handmade very good and tasty. At the end of the evening no wish remained open. Another positive surprise came with the bill. So the day was finally saved for us. We return to the golden deer at any time and also offer a strong recommendation to look past the original Stube in Hirschberg.
The conditions were great despite stress and did their best. The food was great, with the exception of the pork steak with room sauce was a bit hard. The wines were great and I was well advised.
