I suggested that they would like to review this because we did not only make a reservation that was the OpenTable system; but had received emails and text messages as the evening approached (and we received this email requesting a review. we told him we like to sit on the bar. he came back a short time later and said that he had a table (the one who had the reserved sign on it). we sat down to eat. after the first confusion everything was great. dylan, our server was very helpful and friendly. we ordered the pulp (which was huge and very good. large selection of beer on design. they are known for their burgers; so my wife had the mushroom burger and I had the black and bleu burger. both were very good and the pommes were also very good. we would recommend the downing street pour house for beautiful occasional dining experience. they only hope that they have worked out the OpenTable arrangement.
Despite our plans for dessert, we opted to skip it as the options were mostly standard bar fare. The special of the night was chicken-fried prime rib, a dish I had never encountered before. It consisted of a respectable portion of roasted prime rib, which was relatively lean, coated in a tasty batter, quickly fried, and topped with well-seasoned gravy alongside some hearty mashed carrots. I was intrigued by the kohl (cabbage) that I noticed on the menu, and it was prepared quite well. We also ordered a roasted half chicken, which was flavorful, tender, and practically fell off the bone. It was served with a pesto-like sauce (referred to as salsa verde) that complemented the dish nicely, as well as some well-cooked potatoes and steamed, grilled green beans with cherry tomatoes. Both entrees were well-received and priced under $20, which felt like a great deal. The wine list at the pour house was decent, albeit somewhat limited by the glass, while it offered a wider selection for bottles. However, there was a bit of confusion when the bottle of wine we ordered arrived at our table already opened, instead of being presented for us to taste, which is typically expected. I believe a table-side presentation would have added value and enhanced the overall experience. To finish off the meal, we shared an enormous piece of caramel bread pudding—truly massive and enough for two. It made for a delightful conclusion to our dining experience. We are likely to return when we're in the mood for casual pub food with a good selection. The menu features many traditional pub options that we look forward to trying.
Absolutely awesome! eating and service were great! everyone was very personal and friendly. very attentive.
When we first arrived, there was some confusion. We had made a reservation through OpenTable and waited to be seated outside. The staff kept passing by and saying to seat ourselves, and there was a sign indicating the same. We noticed a table with a "reserved" sign and wondered if it was ours, but we hesitated to take it. The place was busy, being quite small, and it was hard to get someone’s attention to ask about our reservation, especially since everyone kept mentioning to seat ourselves. Eventually, we spoke to someone at the bar and explained the situation. He seemed quite surprised and said they were not aware of being part of the OpenTable system and did not accept reservations. I suggested he double-check, as we had not only made a reservation through OpenTable but had also received confirmation emails and text messages before our visit, including one requesting feedback after our meal. We decided to sit at the bar while waiting for updates. Shortly after, he returned to let us know that the table with the "reserved" sign was indeed available for us. Once we were seated, everything turned out great. Our server, Dylan, was very helpful and friendly. We ordered the Brezel, which was enormous and delicious. There was a large selection of beers to choose from, and since they are known for their burgers, my wife ordered the mushroom burger while I opted for the Black and Bleu Burger. Both were excellent, and the Pommes were also tasty. Overall, we would recommend Downing Street Pour House for a lovely dining experience. We just hope they can sort out their arrangements with OpenTable to avoid any future confusion.
Knowing we wanted dessert, we skipped the appetizers, although there were classic bar options available. That night's special was Chicken Fried Prime Rib, which was new to us. It was a decent portion of prime rib, thinly sliced and coated in a delicious batter, then quickly fried and served with a flavorful beef gravy over hearty, mashed potatoes. I opted for green beans instead of cabbage after seeing it on the menu. Everything was tasty and generous, as you would expect from a local bar/grill. My dining companion ordered a roasted half chicken that was incredibly flavorful, tender, and practically falling off the bone. It was topped with a pesto-like sauce called Salsa Verde, which added a nice touch. The dish also came with grilled green beans and cherry tomatoes. Both meals were satisfying and reasonably priced, under $20 each. Pour House has a decent wine list, though it’s somewhat limited by the glass but more extensive for bottles. One quirky moment occurred when the bottle of wine we ordered arrived at our table already opened, rather than being presented to us first. I believe having it opened at the table would enhance the experience without adding much cost. For dessert, we had an enormous piece of caramel bread pudding—seriously, it was MASSIVE and definitely enough for two. Overall, we had a great time and will likely return when we’re in the mood for casual pub food. The menu features typical pub options that look promising.
