The wontons I tried from my partner were good, but I was expecting amazing with the Michelin star. The rest of the dimsum was very tasty though, with the fried wonton the pick of the bunch. The price-to-value ratio here is out of whack because of the Michelin, but you're essentially paying for the ambiance.
The first time we came here was in 2014 and really enjoyed the food. This year we came back and the food stll didn’t disappoint. The dimsum we had was fresh and portion was quite generous. Compared to other places with similar prices, Ho Hung Kee definitely offers more value. We also like the environment and surprisingly the staff was fluent in English. We will come back.
One Michelin rated star for its wantan mee and porridge as their prodigy dish. Price wise its at the high end considering its inside the mall, yet the portion serving is small or comes with a large price for a bigger portion, to the extend its double the normal street food price at a half of portion. Taste wise the standard is there to capture its status, ambience is comfortable and clean, staffs are friendly. Unfortunately didn't get to try the porridge dishes, but they have more than just porridge and the wanton mee. If you are a big portion and budget eater, this ain't a place to hang with as there are plenty more Michelin rated food stalls/restaurant that comes with better value for money.
If you have visited Hong Kong several times and want to know what is the golden standard for dimming, porridge or wan tone noodles, this 1 star Michelin joint is a must for HKG visitors. It sets the standard for how cantonese dimming should be served, any dish we ordered is delicious. Prices could be 30-40% higher than street food, but you are sure that consistency n good quality food here.
Definitely one of the best wine noodles in Hong Kong. Must try. Bright clean environment. Great service. Every penny worth it.
