I splurged and bought a 5# bag of huge icy giant frozen scallops on Friday. The place was recommended to me by HIGA Meats next door where I buy my wholesale meat. People talk about the smell of this place but I am smelled nothing at all. There was even some hand sanitizer on the table even the tiny reception area. The scallops were huge, juicy delectable and well worth the cost. About $60.00 for the 5# turned out about $3.00 per pound cheaper than Costco. Of course you do have to defrost, drain and pat them humongous suckers dry but they held up to a flash grilling with just plain garlic butter basting. I put 6-7 on each plate on top of plain salted and buttered spaghetti noodles. Best meal since the beginning of this year and certainly best Covid meal I 've had to cook. Apologies to Arnold but definitely, I 'll be bahk! Gotta find out what else they have. Interested in mussels maybe but later when money isn 't so tight, King Crab?!?!
Two days ago we phoned them after seeing a news story about the glut of fish since so many restaurants were closed. We ordered 5 pounds of sashimi grade ahi #5 for 7.50 a pound and 10 pounds of cooking ahi for 3.50 a pound. It took about 2 hours for them to prepare our order and when my son went to pick up there were a few people waiting in cars for their orders. The sashimi was melt in your mouth tender and we made some poke too. We cut up the whole fillet into steaks and froze them. I am not sure if they will continue to have fish in the future but the quality was excellent.
In our efforts to support great local businesses during #QuarantineLife my hubby and I ordered a tray of fresh uni from Garden Valley Isle Seafood to eat at home! It was only $30 which was an insane deal when you think about what you would pay if you ate this amount of uni at a sushi restaurant. We ate half of it with rice and cocktails and used the other half to make an amazing batch of uni pasta. The uni is sooooo creamy and amazing!!! I have basically never been so happy in my entire life and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get pregnant during this quarantine period because my husband has never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever been so sexy. If you are an uni lover you definitely need to order a tray, and we can all have a gigantic baby group together in 2021 when this is all over.
12/31/18 A friend told me about their pre-shucked oysters that are individually wrapped. They sell them by the case 3 doz. I pre-ordered 12/26, good thing because upon arrival they were sold out. The salesperson that returned my message called back within 12 hours of leaving the message after hours. He was very helpful and explained everything to me. I was offered to pre-pay or pay upon arrival, I chose to pay, it's only right if you ask them to hold it for you. Upon arrival, they are located to the far right as you enter the driveway. The closer you get the more fishy smell you get. The smell is bearable because you know its a seafood distributer place , not a store front, so don't complain because they let us general public buy! Person at the door is neither friendly nor rude, she got me to sign my invoice and credit card slip. She told someone to get my order, in about 4 minutes I was out the door. Great business to get reasonably priced fresh seafood.
