Contribuisci feedbackThis was my third time to visit Piggy's Place all the way from California). Kalua pork tacos $3.25 each Service is pretty nice as the sales kids are pretty enthusiastic about the food they serve. Tacos are made to order, a generous portion of meat that is hot and moist, with fresh lettuce and cheddar cheese. I think I saw a few pieces of onion. Flavor is GREAT and nicely seasoned... Note: more onion, and a bit of fresh pico de Gallo , and these tacos will explode!! They had a special of Portuguese sausage tacos- pretty darn good.
Piggy's place had lots of potential to the eye when viewing their menu, but, to my dismay, was a huge disappointment for me. I usually eat lunch at the Gourmet Plaza or any places that are part of the Gachapon Alliance accepting Gacha points. About a week or two ago, we visited Shirokiya and, upon passing Piggy's Place, noticed it accepted Gacha points, so my girlfriend, her brother, and I decided to give it a try. To keep this from being a huge write-up, here are the Pros and Cons from my point-of-view: PROs: -Not sure if they are homemade or some company's brand of chips, but their chips were good -Sides we got were good mac salad/veges) and unfortunately) were the stars of the plate CONs: -Order: 1) Loco Moco 2) Deluxe Burger and 3) Kalua Pig Loco Moco and I was charged 40 Gacha Points, but I calculated it and it should have been only 35ish or less. Other places typically round to the nearest dollar for Gacha Points. So either the cashier charged me incorrectly, there is a HUGE mark-up, or I somehow SERIOUSLY miscalculated. My mistake in not questioning the charge, but the workers spent quite a big of time flipping through some menu for prices to charge me. Perhaps the cashier was in training? -For the amount of money/gacha points $40) I spent, I might as well have gone to somewhere else like an L&L or McDonald's because I was still hungry after. Loco Moco came with one small patty and egg. The Loco Moco's patty was extremely dry and tough. My girlfriend's burger which had essentially the same patty as the Loco Moco as far as I can tell) tasted slightly better, but it was mainly due to the condiments and vegetables it came with. Kalua pig loco moco was okay. Overall: My gacha points/money will be going to other places at Shirokiya.
I'm highly recommending the Taco Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. It's in Shirokiya (aka Beer garden . Towards the middle to the left. $1 tacos (2 gacha points . You cannot miss out on $1 tacos!!!!!!! The $1 tacos on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday are limited supplies starting at 5 pm. Sometimes they can sell out by 7 pm (you can still order other food loco moco, different tacos that aren't a $1, etc. . The $1 tacos are ground beef, lettuce, onion and cheese, which I think was Mexican cheese . When you buy 10 tacos for $1 tacos, they'll give you a 11th taco and after taxes it's $10.47. If you get the salsa, a container of 2oz, it is $1.05 per container. Highly recommend going close to 5 pm as the customers seem to arrive more after 6 6:30pm. Not too many people go on Fridays and Saturdays so it could sell out around 8pm. I have played the gacha machines so when you put in $20 , you either get 20, 40, 100, or 200 chips. Certain places you can use the gacha points (Piggy's Place is one of them as well as the beer from the beer garden . Ask the cashier how many gacha points are for each food item. I have used gacha points at other locations. I went with a friend to get 10 (got 11 $1 tacos and with no one in front of me around 5:30 pm, they made the 11 tacos in about 2 minutes (can take longer if there's more people . The tacos are only soft tacos with ground beef (seasoned , chopped onions, lettuce and cheese. You could go to Foodland Farms and purchase sour cream, salsa, guacamole, or get chopped tomatoes and bring it to Shirokiya for your $1 tacos (my friends have done this before . Your other option is getting the $1 tacos to go. The only thing missing is a taco sauce or tobasco or your spice sauce. Highly recommend the $1 tacos based on good food for your money (that's cheap!!!!!!!!!! I will go again and bring my own condiments and other ingredients to make it amazing.
Piggy's place is a locally owned shop that has a unique mixture of local favorites such as loco moco and other California mex items like soft tacos. The staff is enthusiastic and friendly. But here's the deal, this is the only place I know that has the elusive gravy burger! Yes, this is the gravy burger I have been trying to get other people to make in Honolulu and they have failed spectacularly! Some of these guys are from Hilo so they know what the original gravy burger tastes like. Piggy's place gravy burger is not as good as the one that was in Waimea or not as good as K's drive in, in Hilo. However, it's pretty darn close and with a couple of tweaks could be near perfection!!!!! But since we are in Honolulu, they by default make the BEST gravy burger in Honolulu I thought that their pork kalua tacos were solid. It could have a more spicy salsa and cilantro but it was still tasty. They are open to suggestions so go by and try a few things and give them your feedback. Disclaimer one of the owners are related to me but this is my honest review, not skewed by family issues!!!!!
The food here is great! The Kalua Loco Moco is excellent. I'm not a pork type of person but the flavor of the pork blended with the gravy was a flavorful combination. The Piggy's Place also provides a vegetarian option, pineapple taco. It was delicious. If you like pineapple, you'll I've this taco! It's definitely a must try if you're in the Ala Moana mall, located in the Shirokiya Japan Village Walk!!
