Since I got a new job in MilwaukEE, WI, my husband and I are meeting once a month after I fly into PDX for a long weekend. We've discovered the Hood River area (we have a home in Roseburg where I thought I would retire--haha! and the view from our HR Villa on the gorge is somilar to our beautiful view in Roseburg of the Umqua Valley--so peaceful, all we want to do is have some R&R. Our DoorDasher for our McDonalds breakfast our first day told us about The Mesquitery (such a clever name!! and they took PERFECT CARE OF US!! Everything was portable, delicious and storable so we ordered 2 days at a time. The Mexican cheesy dish on top of mashed potatoes, set upon a crispy tortilla, the small chicken and beef quesadillas (saved those for breakfast, the apple crisp and ice cream, and a gorgeous black angus NY strip cooked to perfection with perfectly steamed vegetables. Oh, and don't forget the New England clam chowder--very yummy. We picked it up and when we got home it was all the correct temperature. Probably going back today for Pierogi's and more apple crisp or chocolate bomb (lava cake. The owner was so sweet to me when I thanked her. I wanted to take her home.
We went into the place with low expectations. Everything else nearby seemed to be closed. We were pleasantly surprised. The portions were great and the service was too. We had the pierogi, with bacon (a must) and the chicken skewers.
It was a busy place last Saturday night with a 20-minute wait in the bar. Had the ribeye with sauted mushrooms and a salad with blue cheese. Good quality meat cooked right on an open flame grill. Local beer on tap. Our server was great. Locals in the bar area mentioned the crowd slims down in the next few weeks after the vacationers return home. Fun place.
Excellent food and service. Everything homemade. Their desserts are to die for. Love the Polish beer. House salad dressing is delicious. Mesquite grill. One if my favorite area restaurants.
Best place for a real steak Dinner. Cannot say enough about it. You can literally watch your steaks being cooked over flame. The building is small, so I do recommend reservations. Slightly dark, but in a relaxing way. Service is great. We had prime rib-Excellent! 12oz rib-eye-cooked to perfection! The fish tacos were amazing(you can order how many you want, they are a good size) grilled salmon was perfect. And the dessert! It a MUST have. We ordered 2 of the chocolate lava with ice cream. Please save room for dessert! You will not regret it.
