The only thing I would criticise, is that my daughter and I both would of preferred to have had more sandwiches and less cake! I.e x different sandwiches and then scones each and then other small cakes each. Although at the end, we were both full and brought cakes home in a box. We were not rushed through the tea.
The food itself was good, normal selection of sandwiches, the scones were quite hard but tasted ok and the cakes were good however the service was a real disappointment. We were seated on arrival and the tea order was taken fairly quickly however minutes later our food still hadn’t arrived, we had managed to drink a whole pot of tea in that time. We had to ask where our food was and even then it took mins to come out. They did not really check things were ok very regularly. We waited ages after we had finished and had to ask for the bill. We also asked if our leftovers could be boxed up, they returned to us completely mushed up in baking paper and no box. Then we were ignored again and had to ask to pay for the bill. Then the card machine did not work but this was not explained properly to the person who had put her card in as no receipt was given. There just didn’t seem to be any staff around that could help or be spoken to. I would not recommend coming here.
This was the second time we have been for tea at the hotel. Location is local to us and the grounds are excellent. Staff were attentive and polite. We all agreed that the brand of coffee served was outstanding. The food was very nice, my only comment would be that more sandwiches and a few less cakes would have been better.
Lovely grade listed building converted into a starred hotel. I had my afternoon tea outdoor in the courtyard facing the garden. It was a sunny breezy afternoon it was very relaxing sitting in the courtyard having the afternoon tea in a pleasant setting. I didn’t pay a lot for the food and drink so I was pleasantly surprised by the generosity of the serving. Big portions of sandwiches. Love the little egg mayo rolls. Scones were made soft and warm in good size. Sweets were delicious. I’m not a chocolate person but the brownie and forest gateau were delicious and not overly sweet. I ordered the coffee instead of teas as I didn’t feel the tea selection is very interesting. For the price I paid I’m very happy with the quality and the overall experience. I will be back to try their lunch/dinner menu next time.
We had the winter garden, which was suitable for us all with a view of the beautiful courtyard, which was suitable for us with two young children who can be a little loud. there was a good selection of different tees to try and free flowing, the scones were my favorites as they were fresh and still warm! all in a nice afternoon thanks!
