Every single one of us enjoyed our food; in particular the steak and Guinness pie which was the best pie I've ever had. Kudos to the chef. We definitely recommend and will ge returning at the next given opportunity. Thank you!
Kat and her staff accommodated our two family gathering (18 of us) for Sunday lunch with a prearranged menu in the lovely medieval attic rooms with our sole use for the afternoon. We cannot praise highly enough the service and food we enjoyed and the total ambience of this lovely old pub enhanced by the excellent attention of Kat and the chef who are now the owners.
Lovely country pub with a great atmosphere. First time visiting here and we thoroughly enjoyed our £10 steak night meal and the pudding was delicious. The staff were lovely and welcoming. We will definitely be returning soon.
Booked as it was Sunday and we thought it would be busy. When we arrived we were worried when we were told we could sit anywhere. We were the only people in the restaurant. Not a good sign! Service was appalling. Wait time for drinks and food was ages. Fortunately we hadn’t seen our friends for ages so we had plenty to talk about. We ordered two lamb roasts and two beef. My goodness they were bad. Covered in a brown water which I guess was gravy. Meat as tough as old boots and veg as hard as concrete. The only nice part was the horse radish sauce. Puddings were served in really hot bowls with Luke warm syrup sponge and custard. To get this took about four hours. I would have had another drink but after ordering it it never turned up. Thank goodness we had good company as normally this would have been totally inexcusable. Such a shame as the location and pub are beautiful. Unfortunately we should have checked the reviews before hand. Like so many you only check after a bad experience. Will be giving this establishment a miss in the future.
The staff were great BUT… Waited for 15 mins for an over gassed pint of Guinness to settle. Ordered food which was absolutely atrocious! Lasagne with pieces of gristle in the meat. Dried out mash, with even drier veg, along with what can only be described as unbelievably soggy pastry on a steak and Guinness pie, which was surely made at least a day or two before. My recommendation is to drive past and try somewhere else. The ‘quaint and lovely’ comments on here must be from people who never ate the food! We left the ‘food and guinness’, paid the £40 and left, very disappointed!
