Antonio's Flying Pizza - Houston

I hadn't visited since the mid-90s, and I'm thrilled to say it's just as excellent as I remembered. It offers a wonderful nostalgia for what a true family restaurant should be! The service is fantastic, and the food is outstanding. The sauce strikes the perfect balance—it's flavorful without being overly acidic, enhancing the pasta and protein beautifully. Be sure to treat yourself by starting with a pizza; it's a really amazing pie!

#JoeFoodTour We've passed by this restaurant for years without ever stopping in. Our friend Jane, who is Italian from the East Coast, highly recommended it. The owner, Antonio, moved to Brooklyn from Italy in the 1950s and later relocated to Houston in the 1970s, thanks to his connections in Brooklyn. He sources most of his ingredients for their high quality and authentic Italian flavor. At James' suggestion, we ordered the lasagna pizza, which was excellent, topped with mozzarella and ricotta cheese on a crispy crust. My waiter was great, but the food left much to be desired. I've had better mozzarella sticks at Sonic and better pizza from Little Caesars—I'm not kidding. The pizza arrived hot with a crispy crust, but it was completely underseasoned; it tasted like the sauce was merely tomato purée with no added salt or seasoning. Perhaps my taste is a bit unconventional compared to the regular patrons, but I found the food did not justify the price. I won’t be returning.

This was my first visit with colleagues. Pleasant environment, staff and music. The complimentary bread was hot, fresh and delicious. The sausage calzone was absolutely well prepared and scrumptious!!! I can't wait to go back ??????

Haven't been back since the mid 90s and it is still every bit as good as I remembered. Great throwback to how a proper family restaurant should be! Great service and phenomenal food. The sauce is just right, doesn't kill you with acidity but packs a smooth yet subtle flavor that really marries the pasta and protein. Treat yourself and party by ordering a pizza as a starter, really great pie!
