I'm so grateful to have discovered this gem just down the road from my hotel. I can't wait to return to Houston and visit again. I ordered the sizzling seafood combination, and it was both delicious and satisfying. Their house soy sauce is excellent as well. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
I also noticed they had spinach dumplings on the menu, something I had never tried before, so I decided to give them a shot. They were interesting, but I don't think I'd order them again as they weren't quite to my taste. The drinks came in these large cups, as the owner's son explained—many customers from a nearby gym come in and take advantage of the oversized containers to stay hydrated, which is especially appreciated during the Houston heat waves. The freshly brewed tea was also superb. The owner's son took some time to chat with us about the restaurant's history and some dishes since it was a bit slow when we visited, which was a nice touch. I always prefer supporting local businesses over chain restaurants. The only reason I'm giving this place less than a full five stars—just half a star less—has to do with the decor in the dining area. It has a somewhat outdated vibe reminiscent of hip dining areas for older folks from the 80s, complete with a huge mirror covering an entire wall. While I don't mind mirrors, I really don't want to watch myself eat or see my every movement and facial expression while enjoying a good meal. That being said, the restaurant is extremely clean, the food is fantastic, and I can't wait for my next visit to Red Pepper!
The service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. I really enjoyed my meal; I had the broccoli and beef, which was delicious. My father ordered dish #15, and he found it a bit too spicy!
Very nice staff, delicious food, hearty lunch.
