Stray Horse - Houston

While staying at the JW, I decided to invite my coworkers to have dinner at the hotel restaurant. We were the only diners there, which should have been a red flag. Unfortunately, there were no vegan protein options available, so I ended up ordering overpriced vegetables in sauce. One of my coworkers ordered a burger that was served raw. Despite these mishaps, we found the drinks to be very strong, which we appreciated. The server was excellent and apologized for the errors in our meals.

This was one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. The service was horrific.

The menu at this restaurant did not match what was found online, so it's best not to trust any postings in that regard. I ordered the mahi tacos, which were supposed to come with Mexican corn, but instead I was brought chips and salsa as my side. When I questioned the waitress, she insisted that the menu at the restaurant showed chips and salsa, contradicting what I had seen online. However, upon rechecking the physical menu, I confirmed that it did indeed list corn as the side, making her response a blatant lie. Additionally, the steak I ordered at medium rare came out well done, but the waitress acknowledged this mistake and had it replaced without issue. Unfortunately, the replacement steak was overly oily, as were the accompanying sides, resulting in a strong burnt oil flavor on the potatoes. In terms of service, while reservations were not necessary, they also do not seat you upon arrival. After waiting at the front for about 10 minutes with no guidance, I eventually had to seat myself before waiting another 15 minutes for my order to be taken. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant for dining.

I decided to have lunch at Stray Horse during a seminar at the JW Marriott. I arrived before the other attendees and the restaurant quickly filled up. Luckily, I was able to place my order before it got busy. Despite the large crowd, the four staff members were incredibly efficient and attentive to everyone's needs. They made sure I was well taken care of even amidst the chaos. The chef salad I had was outstanding. It was so good that I returned the next day for lunch. Need I say more?

One server for the entire restaurant..... she was overwhelmed with diners. Food was just ok. Good if you don't want leave property.
