Tacos Dona Lena - Houston

This place came highly recommended to me by a friend. Bessie and Angelica were absolutely wonderful. Their suggestions were spot on. I got quite a few things, but here is my breakdown:Gordita with spicy asada was awesome. Not too spicy, for people that can't handle too much heat, but I added hot sauce after trying it (thank you for the suggestion, Angelica)Quesabirria was the best I've had* and definitely a good portion size (thank you Bessie for the suggestion)*Made with beef instead of goat or lambI was pretty nervous about the barbacoa because I'm super picky about it, but there's was great! Not too greasy, not too dry, but I definitely need to go back and try it on its own without the onions.I also got the machete with lengua. The only place I've had better lengua was at a top notch sushi restaurant. I was very impressed by the flavor and quality.I got 3 agua frescas and got to try a fourth (I am irresponsible)The watermelon was my favorite, but I can see why their pineapple/cucumber is so popular. Very refreshing and not too sweet. The mango was also very good, again, not too sweet. The horchata was definitely one of the best I've had. It is more cinnamon-forward than most, but I really enjoyed it for that reason.Service was incredible and atmosphere is absolutely what I'm looking for when I want real Mexican food. I will absolutely be back. I do not recommend getting everything I did for yourself merely because this was definitely enough food for 4 people and I am uncomfortably full now.

The food is super good!!! That's why this tiny place is packed most of the time.Parking is limited with high traffic. The 25 minutes wait time for food to come out is kind of long.It's a surprise that they have great customer service here... taken good care of your orders and check on you here and there at the table.This taco joint looks like a chaos when you are stepping in but then you realized it's an organized chaos once you're sitting down.

This was the first time I’d ever had Birria tacos… and WOW! I can’t wait to go back. Not only was the food great. So was the customer service. Shortly after being seated one of the servers came over and gave us 5 bottles of different salsa. She explained what each one was and arranged them from mild to hot so we can try each. It was worth the one hour drive!

If I could give a zero I would. My second time ordering here as it was recommended. The first time was great- single tacos the corn tortillas weren’t fried as I’d requested so they perfect. I go again a week later (today) and the complete opposite. I asked if the taco plate’s tortillas were not fried and they said correct dry tortillas. Well not today! They were greasy and fried. So were the single tacos. I will not be returning! I’d recommend my brother who’s in commercial real estate to help them look for a bigger spot for space and new staff.Parking: Small shopping center

This food is legit. My late great aunt used to have her taco shop, and that was the highlight of my summers in Mexico as a kid. This place reminds me of her, and that shop and all the dishes just slap so hard, lol. Love this place, run here already, what are you waiting for?
