Christophe's is back!!! the new management has restored the restaurant back to the quality it used to have. had the manicotti and calamari and both were superb. if you were turned off by the previous management and food quality, give the restaurant a re-try. it's as good now as it always was!
I'm horribly gluten intolerant, and it's fairly hard to find Italian places that have GF pasta not an issue here! My parents were in, and we decided to come by for dinner. Their menu has good prices, and you get a salad with most entrees. I ordered the chicken Alfredo. My mom had the same, my dad had a different dish, and my husband had pizza. Our food was wonderful, and service was exceptional. We didn't have to ask for anything. We will definitely be back!
J Christopher's is dead. I don't know what this place is. I haven't been in some time since moving out of Kingwood, and I was so excited to pick up my favorite pizza while I was nearby. I was sadly disappointed at the quality compared to the food put out by the previous owners. The cheese seems cheap and easy by comparison, the crust is not nearly as good. Sad to see a beloved Kingwood institution fall like this.
Will not be back. Had a party of 8 celebrating a graduation with balloons, gifts, etc. First of all, when we entered and said we had a reservation, they simply gestured for us to go to the back. They did not tell us where we were going to be sitting. We asked a member of their staff, who pointed to a table meant for 6 that they had added two chairs to.It was going to be VERY cramped, and since the restaurant was half empty, I requested a larger table. This was apparently upsetting to their waitstaff, who gave us great attitude about adding an additional table to the two they had already put together. The spaghetti bolognese was very salty, and it was more sauce than noodle. Do not get their meatballs!! They taste like nothing but binder. The ratio was easily 60% binder compared to meat. The only good thing about this restaurant is their bread. Our waiter himself was kind, so of the two stars I'm giving, one is for the bread, and the other is for him who was quite skilled at his job. The lady who had given us attitude would help him fill drinks, and continued to make me feel uncomfortable. I do not know what her issue is, but disappointed overall with this restaurant. I guess whatever you do, don't plan a group event here.
My wife and I met some friends for dinner last weekend at J. Christophers. It was our first time to visit since the local favorite re opened under new management. After reading all of the negative comments, we have been hesitant to visit. But, after actually going there I can report that we found all of the negative comments baseless. We had a wonderful evening, enjoying some of the traditional flavors that made J. Christophers a local favorite, and equally enjoying some of the new dishes. The meal started with an order of focaccia that was amazing. Even though it was complimentary, we would gladly have paid for an extra serving or two. We started with the Arancini and fried zucchini one new dish, one old. Both were outstanding. The Arancini and marinara sauce were as good as we have had anywhere. The zucchini was lightly breaded and cooked just right. We then decided to order a number of entrées to again sample some of the old dishes alongside some of the new. We ordered a thin crust pizza that we are happy to report is just as good as any pizza we have had a J. Christophers over the past 30 years of dining there. No new flavors, no new techniques, but the same pizza that has made this place a local favorite. We also ordered the Truffle Gnocchi, the Pappardelle Bolognese, and the Cacio e Pepe. All three dishes blew us away. They were as good or better than you can get at far pricier restaurants in Houston and better than most of the pasta dishes prior to the re launch. And the new décor and wait staff were both a key to making our dining experience fully satisfying. We can not recommend strongly enough to ignore the noise on social media and give J. Christopher's a try. We will definitely be back.
