I came here for lunch and ordered a pulled pork sandwich with onion rings and a root beer. The service was spectacular! So were the onion rings, close to the best I've ever had. I wish I could say the same about the sandwich. The pork wasn't pulled, it was chopped, and it was obviously reheated dry on the flat grill as the meat was parched and burnt. I wasn't given a choice of sauces and the BBQ sauce served on the side was too sweet for me. The roll was ho hum. I'll give this place another chance based on the onion rings and the stellar reviews here.
I go out of my way to visit the Santa Maria BBQ location on Golden West street as they have the best Ribs and Fruit Cobbler in town. The Customer Service is Superior, and the Staff is very friendly. I would highly recommend visiting this location.Food: 5/5
We came for an early dinner (before 6 PM and decided to try the brisket plate and the tri tip plate. There was only one other group that ate in the restaurant while we were there most of their business was takeout. The vibe was quiet for Thursday night. The young lady who took our order was super attentive and made thoughtful recommendations. Our food arrived hot and fresh and we quickly shared with each other. Our opinion: The brisket was outstanding. Tri tip was very tender, both meats were perfectly seasoned and flavorful. No sauce was needed but we did dip a few bites in each of the sauces provided. The beans were delicious. The cole slaw was epic (despite the fact that there was kale in it! . The potato salad was perfectly seasoned. The greens were hot and tasty, great texture, no grit and well seasoned (I personally would ask for it drained of the juices next time, but that's me , maybe add a couple shakes of red pepper flakes. The rice was also well seasoned and tasty. We will be back to try brisket sandwiches and maybe Armageddon fries they sound intriguing.. All in all a great experience they lived up to the 5 star reviews we read before trying them.
I'm only going to base this off the food I tried. I, personally, did not go to Santa Maria BBQ. My sister and husband did. I came home from work and that's what was for dinner.Neither of them really enjoyed their meals. I'm not much into BBQ food, because I don't like barbecue sauce. Thankfully, the food I ate didn't taste like hickory or whatever sauces people put on BBQ chicken. This food tasted smoked, which I like.I ate tri-tip without sauce and it was good. I have dysphagia so eating beef scares me, because it's one of the meats I really have a hard time with, but it was moist, and easy to chew and swallow. I ate the brisket and it was also tasty and easy to eat. I ate both meats without sauce, and they were fine without it. The potato salad tasted like potato salad to me, so I don't know why my husband and sister didn't care for it. They thought it was salty, but I thought it tasted fine. I had a tiny bit of pulled pork, but that was too salty for me, but pork IS a salty food, and it tasted almost like Hawaiian kalua pork. I'm a bit over pulled pork because I ate it a lot last year (from other places), and I quit eating it because it's salty...this was no different. It was expected. I didn't try the chicken, because I ate chicken a lot last week, and wanted something different. My sister bit into a chicken leg and it was pink, so glad it happened to her and not me, because I would have been super upset. I'm not into beans or rice, so I didn't eat them. So, for me, the food I ate was good. One star less because my sister and husband didn't like theirs, however they thought the customer service was great. No pictures to show because I ate my food as soon as I put it on my plate.
