Their hype was definitely high on the Yelp side of business so I thought with all the good reviews and pleasing looking eats, I took a shot at this business with the company of my wife. Upon entering it was completely empty which was a first plus for us as seating was plentiful. The downsides started with the cashier. I don 't know what might have gotten to her that day but it definitely regressed into her customer service abilities. There was an unfriendly blase attitude coming from her when we were ordering our food. It seemed more like You ordered this, now what? rather than Would you guys like anything else for today? . After ordering we seated ourselves to one of the tables and because of the scorching hot temperatures that day, I went over to a little counter to retrieve me and my wife some waters. Upon this, I found a 5 gallon jug with an electronic faucet and took the only plastic cups displayed and began dispensing water. During this, I kindly asked the cashier for ice, and with a nonchalant sure she then got up a couple seconds after texting on her phone while also saying, That 's unfiltered water for the dogs and also, that 's a coffee cup. Okay? Well, where was the display label for that? I 'm aware it 's a coffee cup, but it was the only cups displayed. Why weren 't we served the cups of ice with water in the first place like you did for the following customers that walked in? Let alone why weren 't we greeted with the same friendly warmth like you did with said customers? That 's enough about the customer service. Let 's move onto another appalling situation. The food. We ordered the Turkey Avocado Swiss Sandwich and the HB Surround Sound Burrito. The sandwich was ordered on the whim and it was definitely a good tasting sandwich but something that could 've been made at home considering the strongest elements of it was the Swiss cheese as well as the bacon. Did we regret getting it? No. Would I order it again? Not for the price which I know isn 't the business ' fault. Secondly, the HB Surround Sound seemed to be one of the highlights of the restaurant 's menu. Many people reviewed here on Yelp and as of that, I definitely was interested to see how bbq sauce would be situated within a burrito. The burrito was burly to say the least, but the taste? Disappointing. The only thing that stuck out from the dry chicken and avocado, was the overly sweet bbq sauce that had a bitter aftertaste to it. The goes the same for the seemly stale tortilla chips and watered down salsa. Overall, it had a comfy atmosphere and it is at a convenient spot. However, due to the food and service I won 't find myself back here or recommend this spot to anyone else.
I tried Secret Spot for the first time with my husband and our experience was subpar to say the least. Customer Service: The cashier was blunt and nonchalant, it really seemed like she didn't want to be there. She took our orders with a seemingly unprofessional and unwelcoming attitude, and we went ahead and seated ourselves. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day, until other customers rolled in. Seeing as we were the only POC there, her service towards White customers appeared to be much more friendly, whereas she couldn't even crack a smile at us or say thank you when taking our order (just an observation). Food: We ordered the HB Surround Sound Burrito and the Turkey Avocado Swiss Sandwich with Bacon. Both entrees came with chips and salsa, which were alright. The salsa was watered down and tasted bitter for some reason? On the flip side, our food didn't take too long to come out, around 15 minutes or so. The food wasn't bad, but certainly nothing to rave about. Ambience: I thought the decorations and tables gave off a very unique and laid-back aesthetic, which was a nice change of scenery from your typical brunch spot. It was pretty empty when we came in for lunch, as we were the only ones dining in, but customers would roll in occasionally for take out. Overall, the average food and underwhelming customer service made this place a spot for us to avoid when searching through lunch options. I would've given back a star or two had the cashier provided at least average service, but clearly that wasn't the case. Personally, I would spend the money elsewhere on a place that has at least good food and decent service.
I used to love this spot. I surf at Bolsa and Huntington regularly so this used to be my go to. But severely inflated prices, smaller portions, long waits and poor service have made it impossible to return. The bad service yesterday was it for me. Good Customer service can go a long way when you are understaffed in these times. But she was rude for no reason and definitely did not want to be there. Insult to injury, the small smoothies are tiny and cost $18 for 2? No thanks.
Cute breakfast spot with a ton of options for all food sensitivities! Order at the front and select your own seats. Breakfast burrito #4 (with soyrizo) was an all around favorite 9/10. The tuna melt was an 8/10. The kind of blue smoothie with peanut butter was fresh 8/10.
