The Hurunui

We paid $10 for a family of 5 to stay at a powered site at the camp ground. The kids rode their bikes round the entire estate and no one had a problem. We walked over from our caravan to the hotel and ate dinner in the restaurant . The food was AAA+ and I’m fussy about my food when I’m paying for it so this says a lot. The fish was ultra fresh , the garlic Bread and onion rings as an entree were supreme. The service was excellent, Adam the owner wouldn’t let me pay for two camp sites even though we were taking up 2 spaces. We can’t wait to go back.

Post renovations, you stand redefined, Bettina, your owner, a gem we find. Staff like Courtney, with a sweetness so rare, Her welcoming spirit beyond compare, making us feel like we belong there. In your warm heart, we relished the feast, Ribs, rich and tender, a delectable beast. Oh, the flavors, oh, the cheer, Hurunui, you're more than you appear. In the midst of our meal, a worry arose, For our furry friend, as the night draws close. With no pet meal to give, our hearts felt the strife, That's when Bettina stepped in, to bring comfort to life. From her own abode, with love she fetched, A meal for our pet, our faith was etched. A selfless act, so rare, so true, Bettina, Hurunui, our hearts are with you. And as we etch this tribute in starlight's glow, We promise, Hurunui, we'll return to your shadow. For a haven that felt like home, an unforgettable night, With moments so precious, shining ever so bright. If it were possible, beyond the stars' gleam, We'd rate you higher, in this traveler's dream. I have always driven past over the years. This time I was tired. A real country-pub room was available. Revived by a big plate of good tucker out in the beer garden w friendly locals and then a great sleep. Amazing value for money (room and meal/beer) even including a big old bath, and a cute guest lounge. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5

Clean spacious room with clean shared bathroom in the main historic building. Excellent evening meal and some fine beer. All run by friendly helpful people. Lovely to stay in a real historic gem. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
