I would advise being pre-book only on the safe side. a warm and hearty greeting of the staff soon calmed down as both and we were shown on our table. the personal was very present, memorable, without being overlaid. premise are set up on a high standard and are very clean. extensive menu with a large selection. Eating was immediately served, hot and very well presented. portions were ideal and eating was very delicious. a pleasant lunch in a cozy pub in a moor landscape. would look again without hesitation missed on a good note as my wife served a warming brandy in the right glass, it sealed the experience. many love, effort and imagination have been invested, they can feel it. the type of traditional British pub that in the country family visitors and friends would be most impressed!
Managed to book in last minute. the parking lot was full and when we were in the pub, it was a good job we had booked as it was really full. reasonable decisions on the menu seemed to be something for everyone we had the garlic bread with cheese for a starter between and it was nice. good work that we shared since it was very filled we had both chop meats wobble cake, like a deep plate cake with engraving. one with chips muddy and one with maic and veg. we both thought the cake would be much too salty. the muddy heaps were barely warm, the chips tasted nothing and the maic seemed to be out of a package? the personal was very nice and attentive not sure whether we return or not
My wife and her cousin went to the restaurant on a Sunday and were immediately asked what they wanted to eat, without even being given a chance to look at the menu. They felt rushed as three different waitresses came by while they were still eating, asking them to finish up quickly. One waitress even swore at them, which made them feel uncomfortable. It was not a pleasant experience overall, as it seemed like the staff cared more about getting money than ensuring customer satisfaction. They do not plan to go back.
I usually love this restaurant, but today I was very disappointed. The selection of roasts was limited, with no chicken or turkey available by 2pm, and no roast beef either. The only options were roast lamb or a special chicken burger. I opted for the roast lamb, but when it arrived, it was pulled instead of roasted, and not to my liking. The vegetables and potatoes that came with it were fine. It was supposed to be my choice for my birthday, but it was not as expected. I believe that running out of roast meats by 2pm is a sign of poor management, and the lack of variety in white meat options was disappointing. Overall, my experience was very disappointing.
I have visited The Grey Mare for the second time and each time the young lady staff were extremely attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.
