My grandmother reserved a private room at George's for our family's Christmas gathering and meal, an event we have attended for the past three years. She typically spends on meals and drinks for around 40 people! However, I received a call from her informing me that George's decided to keep the room for the Colts game that afternoon instead. I have a feeling they wouldn’t have made this move if the Colts were performing poorly like they did last year!
I was trying to decide between the Caesar salad and the Black Forest salad, so I asked our server how many shrimp were on the salad. She estimated that there were about 5 or 6 grilled jumbo shrimp, which sounded great, so I chose the Caesar with shrimp. However, when the dish arrived, I was surprised to find only 3 shrimp cut in half instead of the expected whole shrimp. I mentioned this to our server, and the owner quickly came over to our table. He explained that this was how they served the salad and that he couldn’t afford to put 6 whole shrimp on it for $9.99. He even offered to add more shrimp for an extra fee, which I declined. The whole conversation felt belittling, and I told my guest that I probably wouldn’t be returning. Things took a turn for the worse when we ran into the owner in the parking lot as we were leaving. I expressed my disappointment with how the situation had been handled, and he asked how he could have addressed it differently, launching into a discussion about how "the customer is always right." I pointed out that it wasn’t appropriate for him to say he couldn't afford to put 6 shrimp on the salad. There was no alternative suggestion made, and his demeanor felt dismissive and uncaring. I reiterated that we wouldn’t be returning. To my surprise, he followed my guest to his car, shouting that he didn’t need cheap customers like us. Really? Is this how you view loyal customers who frequent your restaurant and bring others along? The initial misunderstanding about the shrimp was something I could have overlooked, but his reaction and behavior made it clear that we won’t be coming back. All of this fuss over three shrimp—was it really worth it?
My wife and I visited George's for lunch on a Friday and had a fantastic experience. Overall, we found it to be a great lunch at a good price. The service was satisfactory to excellent, as the restaurant wasn't particularly busy that day. I have a fondness for classic breaded tenderloin sandwiches, and George's version was outstanding! My wife enjoyed the clam chowder and couldn't stop praising the chicken salad. We will definitely be returning—this time for dinner!
First time visit with my wife. We both ordered the fish and chips sandwiches. Side dishes were acceptable, but the fish chips were terrible, full of thick crusty batter, and four pieces about the size of a man 's thumb. It was all batter and hardly any fish....very disappointed, but willing to make allowance for new kid on the block restaurant, but only if management takes corrective action, which they didn 't express an interest in checking it out for themselves the day of our visit even though the courteous and efficient waitress asked for an honest opinion of our meal, which we extended. Would only recommend to a friend with the above caution noted regarding our experience.
The Benford salad and the chop salad are the best salad I have ever had. The black cherry vinerette dressing is fabulous. We usually go there at least once a week.
