Aaahhh another black owned business! So here's the thing: scottles treats you like family. You walk in and they talk to you like they've known you for years and the gumbo, to me is decent. But it's hearty. And that bread they give you is everything. Now the reason I call it decent is because I feel like it lacks flavor. And maybe he puts less flavor because he's concerned about our high blood pressure. I'm not sure. But I'd still like just a little more. Now.....We've had it a few times and I feel like it always got me close to where I wanted the flavor but never fully there. But...I really like how they use deveined shrimp. Who cooks gumbo and doesn't use deveined shrimp??????(Sal's . They definitely don't skip on the meat. Drummettes(is that how you spell it? , chicken breast, sausage, shrimp, crab, etc. If it were up to me, I'd have Sal's flavor with Scottles deveined shrimp and other meat and call it a day.
We called, left a message, drove over as their info stated that they opened up at 11:00 am but they were closed. We got there at 1:30 pm. Very disappointed as the reviews were good.
I wanted to avoid giving this place a bad review for several reasons. It's local, I want to support local businesses; espeecially during this COVID-19 period. However, since these factors are apparently not important to them, why should I care? I was initially put off by the outward appearance of the place. It looked if not abandoned; definitely unkempt. Water dripping from an outside faucet, dead vegetation, trash and what looked like abandon cars in the lot. You would think with what will be a prime location, across the street from SoFi Stadium, they would try to spruce it up a bit. It is also next door to an abandon lot. But, I continued-the food was good and the employee who helped me was pleasant. On my 2nd visit things had clearly deteriorated from the outside. Now there is a homeless man who is hanging is belongings on both sides of the fence where you enter. I phoned in my order as I usually do. When I arrived there was a pair ahead of me who obviously had not made up their minds about their order--down to their preferred ingredients. There were two people/employees at the register helping them decide on their order. I knew why I was there. All four were in on the conversation about this one order. Instead of one of the employees stoppng to help the next customer/me. They just ignored me.So, I left. They lost a sale and a regular customer. Why patronize a business that is sloppy and unkempt and provides poor customer service? Inglewood businesses should try to do better if you want community support- act like you want it.
I was craving a hot bowl of seafood gumbo and put it in my yelp. Iv passed by Scottles Gumbo many times and never thought to stop until today. I was in for a pleasant surprise and treat! I ordered the combo gumbo which comes with crab legs, shrimp and chicken. It was SO BOMB! Probably the best bowl of gumbo Iv had that is not my families. Literally every bite was so flavorful and perfect. Comes with a scoop of rice in it so it soaks up all of the base. My only fault is that I should have ordered a larger size lol! Just a tip, its best to call ahead to order because everything is made to order. Took about 20 mins for my order to be ready but I was not complaining cause I sat in my car and chilled. They called my when it was ready, so convenient! 100% going back!
