There is a small parking lot, but if it's busy you'll probably have to street park, which is free! They do have a happy hour from 4-6 on appetizers, drinks, and sandwiches. We got the slaw dogs, goat cheese balls, and Reuben along with some mocktails. Let me tell you that Reuben was SO good. If you get anything there I highly recommend that! It comes with a side salad which helps balance out the Reuben. Great service too!
We came for HH and to celebrate a happy event. HH is 4-close on Mondays. Thats crazy! Nice selections too in the critical food and drink areas. It was nicely crowded. Excellent service and their floor team helped each other out. That was nice to see. Of special note were two entrees; Pierogi and BBQ lamb rack. Both were unique, prepared perfectly, tasty, and visually pleasing. Nice job! Clean bathrooms thanks for that. Parking is a challenge. The smallish lot was full, but we did find something on Indianola. The side streets are permit only.
The Crest serves what I consider to be interesting takes on some midwest standards and some of their drinks. I enjoyed what I ate and drank, and I hope that the service issues we experienced on our visit go away after they relieve what they told us was due to a staffing shortage. Unfortunately, it was enough to diminish our ability to enjoy our dinner there. I guess the best way to summarize what happened to us was that every time we ordered items we got either too many things or too few delivered to our table. We were a larger group with a reservation. We started with cocktails. With that many people, it of course took a while, but once they were delivered, we were two drinks short. We followed that with appetizers, which included 3 plates of their fries. We got 5 plates of them delivered to our table, we have no idea why. Missing items continued through dinner. In this case 2 dinners again never got delivered, each was their fried fish dinner, with a request to omit the fennel. After more than 10 minutes, not only did the dinners not arrive, our waitress did not check on us. Someone at our table had to flag her down. She went back to the kitchen and returned saying they would be out in approximately 4 minutes, as they were given a high priority (translation: the order for the fish probably never went in). It took more like 10 minutes for the dishes to arrive, and one of them had fennel back on it. These last 2 dishes were served to us by the manager, who was very apologetic and did offer to give us a round of drinks. We were content to have the meals comped, but it did deter us from buying additional drinks or getting desserts. I believe his sincerity; I hope this experience was an exception here and that they can turn this sort of thing around.
What an absolutely wonderful dinner and evening out! We had such a nice time rediscovereing The Crest Gastropub as we haven't dinner here since late 2018. I ordered the delicious Goat Cheese Balls. The blackberry jam and honey were perfect with them and was really surprised with the lemon curd. It took it to the next level for me. I also ordered a Crest Burger and potato's. The potatoes had just the right amount of fried crunchy too. With the burger, the burger blend, the pickles, and the bun the whole meal really stood out. Special thank you to Molly our server. She was super cool and took great care of my partner and I. The menu is impressive but honestly only found a few items that really appealed to me but I made the right choices.
They have plenty of seating options and I love the covered patio seating outside, especially with a slight breeze from the early fall weather. And you can smell some of the herb that they planted around the patio. The vibe is very chill and comfy. My first experience with Appalachian cuisine and it is amazing. The server is very friendly and attentive. Sweet Corn Dip The dip is very rich and creamy. It have the sweet corn chow-chow and the sweet pepper relish, which add a hint of sweet and sour flavor to the dip. Fire Roasted Chicken I love this dish. It is super juicy and the skin a extremely crispy.
