Very nice restaurant in traditional country style and in a very nice and secluded location. The audience rather in evening dress and the staff a bit in rasta punk style. We liked it right away. At the price level, you could almost expect star cuisine. However, service and cuisine are far behind this level. The waitress was initially annoyed that we asked her for details of the meal 's preparation. The seafood platter £70 p.p. came without oysters and caviar. The Best Highland Beef born and matured in Skye fattened on the Black Isle was completely fried gray despite being ordered medium. It is really sad how lovelessly ingredients of this quality can be ruined. The other meals were not the best either. They wanted to redo the steak, then after it didn 't come after another 30 minutes, I no longer had any desire and just wanted to leave. The only positive thing then was goodwill. I did not have to pay for platters nor beef.
This restaurant was part of our hotel that we stayed at, The Flodigarry hotel. We ate here our first night, and we loved it so much, that we decided to eat here each subsequent night. The oysters were so fresh. We tried several different ones, my husband really enjoyed them and came back for seconds the following night. The lobster was good although maybe slightly rubbery. Scallops were wonderful. Beef was also good. We sat at the front table with great views out to sea.
My husband I found this restaurant online the menu sounded amazing. The setting is beautiful, however the service from the start was poor. We had to ask for a glass of water. The prices, which we knew about in advance, indicated that the food would be above your standard fare. We ordered 6 natural oysters at 18 pounds. They arrived with no lemon. 5 of the oysters were delicious, however one smelled a small taste indicated that it was off hence neither of us were willing to eat further. I told this to the wait staff. For mains I ordered 1/2 lobster forager salad at 55 pounds expecting a truly delicious fresh tasty meal. What arrived was an overcooked, tough, tasteless lobster, a few pieces of lettuce chopped tomatoes. I had to ask for a piece of lemon. It was inedible I returned it uneaten. I was offered another meal however my husband has started his meal to be honest I had lost confidence in the food options. My husband had halibut which was tasty but at 52 pounds not worth the money. We were understandably not charged for the lobster but all up found this to be a incredibly disappointing experience. We were pleasant at all times found the response inadequate. On paying the bill we were surprised at the lack of apology acknowledgement.
I booked Flodigarry for a family birthday last week. I was actually there for my own 21st a few years ago now so was looking forward to going back. Unfortunately however it is now hugely overpriced for extremely small averagely cooked portions. We had Scallops for a starter, 3 medium sized ones for £21 which were tasty enough but scallops always are. The main courses on the menu range from £36 for the vegetarian option to £56 for the steak. I opted for the rack of lamb as did my sister at £47 each. My mother had the monkfish with 1 langoustine. At £47 , I was very disappointed to recieve 1 bone of a rack of lamb which should have been better described on the menu as a single lamb chop not a rack. Probably the most expensive lamb chop in the country. The langoustine was also poorly cooked and watery. Anyway it was a disappointing visit saved by freindly staff and some of the best views in the world. It is a pity I feel that the restaurant is taking advantage of their residents, maybe because there is no other place to eat for a few miles. I am local to Skye myself so there are many great places to eat on the Island before I will empty my bank balance back here.
