I think this place is a bit soendy, $10 for a sandwich. But usually their carmelized onions are so amazing on the guava pollito pernil and so unique. I would skip the tres leches, good but only a cupcake size for $4.
Looks much bigger from the outside. Probably only 20 or so tattered seats inside and about 6 more outside. Parking can be challenging so try not to go during rush hours. Cleanliness of the seating area and bathroom could certainly be improved but watching them in the kitchen, the cooks and preppers wear all the right protection and seem to handle the food appropriately. There were only two of us and we had to share a table with others in order to have seats. We are used to that since we always travel third world, but some folks don’t like being so close to strangers. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh, at the right temperature and served promptly. Service was adequate. Would come back. I had the vegetarian arepa – so tasty…. The tostones (fried plantains) were also perfect (based on my 6 year experience living in Latin countries)… Glad this was recommended by some friends. They were bang on…
I love guava, so had to try it. Also it came highly recommended by a friend. Food was yummmylicious warm. Hole in the wall kind of place. You MUST try it if you are in town. Loved the guava smoothie with milk!!! It is absolutely a must-eat-at place in Albuquerque :
Not only was the food delicious and the service friendly, but also the owner, Diego, very kindly offered to host my gifted seminar class at Guava Tree Cafe. Two of my students are studying Spanish using Duolingo, so we studied food and restaurant terms before going to eat South American and Cuban cuisine. The staff very patiently spoke Spanish very slowly to my students, and as I mentioned, the owner treated us. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch for the food, service and ambiance. I ordered the Guava Pollito, which was delicious with the sweet carmelized onions and the tasty garlic sauce. We shared a tres leches cake, a moist, dense, flavorful cake.
