Comfortable restaurant, typical Coutpaille, attentive and friendly service and food was excellent. The Courtpaille menu is the same in all their restaurants and you can check out the menu online. The meat is grilled on wood fire on view. Good ambience.
The main reason for writing this review is to help travellers arriving in Issoire on a Sunday and despairing about finding somewhere open to eat. In the town itself there is basically nothing open, apart from Le Globe, which with its pizza burger tapas menu may suit some, but the Courtepaille, on the eastern fringes of the town and next to the Carrefour supermarket, is also open 7/7 and until late. The Courtepaille is not haute cuisine, but it doesn't do a bad job, and there are so many permutations and combinations possible within the menus that you will be sure to find something, big or small, to suit. The Spring menu of 2016 had some interesting new additions mackerel rillettes and ratatouille with poached egg, for example, which were good. Plenty of steaks on offer, but I had the duck leg stuffed with foie gras and mushrooms not bad at all. Good and varied wine menu, so we spent an astonishing 38€ between us for a very passable meal. Service was good, although the Courtepaille default mode is throughput, and many motorway customers don't want to hang around. To be considered if you're stuck in Issoire as we were.
This seemed to be a popular restaurant. We were seated outside where the atmosphere was pleasant. There was an extensive menu including a quick one if you were in a rush. The food was fairly basic but edible.
I had dinner here while being on my trip to the south of France. We had Tartar and my melon with Jamon The Jamon was nearly not eatable. Try to find something better. There are a lot of possibilities nearby.
