We tried the cold appetizers: fava, eggplant dip, and stuffed mussels; for hot appetizers, we had fried calamari, and as the main course, we enjoyed fish kebabs, of course accompanied by our rakı. The taste of the food, the presentation, and the attentiveness of the waitstaff were all excellent. I truly regretted not coming here sooner. Don’t make the same mistake I did! If you find yourself in Izmir and have no aversion to seafood, be sure to visit Veli Usta.
I also asked if the fish cook named Veli, who has the same name and is located in Kordon, was the same person. They confirmed, but the menu was completely different, featuring only the clichéd dishes found in average fish restaurants in Istanbul. Apart from the name, there was no connection at all. The taste, service, and variety were all quite disappointing.
A bit pricey but still my favorite fish restaurant on the Kordon... definitely try the grilled calamari!
We went there with a big group of company. Fish and mezes (cold tapas) were very delicious. I would go back there again.
