The coconut rice wasn't much better either. Definitely wasn't worth the $16 plus tip. At least the pineapple salsa was decent and the only thing with flavor...
One of the best experiences I've had with a business owner! We hired Laura and her team to cater for our warehouse twice and they did not disappoint. They were early, clean, fast, friendly, professional, and worked with my boss and I as we tried to coordinate the expenses with our higher ups. If you are looking for good food with great service for your next event book Island Girl!
We had Island Girl come to our office for an outdoor celebration event and they were absolutely awesome!!!! She was so amazing to work with, replied quickly every time, kept me informed, added additional food items to fit our needs and even made a few special items for me personally. The food was so fresh and delicious and there was a variety of choices for everyone. The favorite was the coconut shrimp with marmalade dipping sauce, so yummy. My favorites were the fried cheese balls and the Brussels sprouts! Best I've ever had! She told me that they are looking at doing catering too and we are very excited to have them do another event for us!!! Thank you Island girl for excellent service and extraordinary food! Can't wait to see you again!!! Love yall!
Found the food truck at the Orange Park Farmer's Market, they had a pretty solid menu but no fried fish tacos so I opted for the coconut fish sandwich. I think this would have pretty good had it not been overcooked and it needed something to tie it together but no...... The only hot sauce they have is Texas Pete and for island themed food that just ain't going to cut it. Would like to try these guys again but I'll come prepared next time. BTW my tab tip for this sandwich was $18.50.
I saw that the Island Girl Seafood truck was nearby and I went over to see what they offered. Having been unfamiliar with them, I did a quick yelp search and reviewed their paper menu. I ended up ordering the coconut shrimp, which the person who took my order said was one of their specialties and I added on the coconut hush puppies. Given that they had a huge sign saying that their cheese balls were amazing, I grabbed an order the mozzarella ones as well. I must admit that I was a little confused as to why a seafood place was selling cheese balls...but, oh well, I love fried cheese. I was told that since I hadn 't placed my order online ahead of time, as I didn 't know that was an option, my order would take 52 minutes. I was given a time to return to the truck. Nearly an hour wait is a long time for truck food. I tend to think of food trucks as a great go-to for a quick meal. I mean, even an hour wait in a restaurant for food is a ridiculously long time. Nevertheless, I agreed and paid. My order was ready right on time! I was able to skip the line when I arrived back there and received their text and everything was correct when I checked the boxes before leaving. Nearly everything was also overly fried including the french fries which were dark in color, hard, and difficult to eat. The shrimp were large and nicely breaded and they had a good flavor to them. But the coconut hush puppies were burnt in places and had no appreciable seasoning or flavor aside from coconut pieces. I guess I was expecting the usual spices in a hush puppy with the addition of coconut. And the cheese balls were melted discs of breading around some of the cheese. They were still edible but not what was advertised. I remember trying a brie ball from Nomi 's Cheese Bar at Gastrofest years ago and what I got was much more successful back then (see pic). It looks like these companies have merged or perhaps they are the same folks?!?! The issues on the night that I went may have been because of the crowd or because their oil temperature was too high. I wish I had tried something that didn 't require a fryer to be able to better asses their flavors. This truck seems to have potential but I just didn 't have a great experience, particularly given the relatively high costs of the food.
