The film is not inspired by the restaurant, it is a hot pot that the dinner seemed fantastic: to start it is mandatory to start with the bowls that are specialty of the restaurant, crispy and fried, I think they are some meatballs that do with all the remains they find but personalized! the tempura was great and all the broochtos, delicious. is a restaurant very visited by Westerners but it is also a meeting point for all Japanese men and women That is why it is very normal to see all perfectly adapted and with the colleagues of the office the Japanese speak little during such hours of work and that is why they take advantage of talking to their colleagues, even with their boss! around a few beers after work. In addition and since not many live near the jobs, they have fun near where they work to then take the train and return to the houses one of the things I loved from gonpachi was the bathroom, it is to kill The Japanese have a feeling of service completely different from the Westerners, it is impressive the mime to the small details and even in a restaurant as crowded as gonpachi, it is not difficult to find the role of the hotel folded in a hotel. And don't have the advice!
In Tokyo is the restaurant where the fighting scene between lucy liu and uma thurman was shot in the death account. Outside it looks good, but nothing else enters you can see that if it is the one of the movie, it has a bar on the lower floor where you can see the cooks cook directly on the front. but the best place is at the top of where you can enjoy, in addition to the food, a magnificent panoramic view of the place. the waiters scream all at once when someone asks for a special dish or when someone comes out. the environment is insurmountable, although prices are a shell more expensive than those of a traditional izakaya. Still, I recommend going and dying of hunger and camera!
I loved dining at Gonpachi: it was like being in the middle of Kill Bill. The movie is not inspired by the restaurant, it's a replica! The dinner was fantastic: to start, it is a must to have the specialty meatballs, crispy and fried, I think they are made with all the leftovers they find but customized! The tempura was great and all the skewers, delicious... It is a restaurant very popular with Westerners but it is also a meeting point for Japanese men and women who gather to eat and above all drink after their workday. That's why it's very common to see everyone perfectly dressed and with their office colleagues. Japanese people speak little during their work hours and that's why they take the opportunity to talk with their coworkers, even their boss! around some beers after work. Also, since many live close to their jobs, they dine near where they work to then take the train back home. One of the things I loved about Gonpachi was the bathroom, it is exactly like it appeared in Kill Bill and it seems like Uma Thurman is going to come out of any corner. Japanese people have a totally different sense of service than Westerners, it is impressive how they pay attention to small details and even in a crowded restaurant like Gonpachi, it is not difficult to find the toilet paper folded in a triangle like in a hotel. Oh, and they don't like tips!!!!
In Tokyo, there is a restaurant where the fight scene between Lucy Liu and Uma Thurman in Kill Bill was filmed. From the outside, it looks appealing, but as soon as you step inside, you can see that it is indeed the one from the movie. It has a bar on the lower floor where you can watch the chefs cook right in front of you. However, the best spot is on the upper level, where you can enjoy not only the food but also a magnificent view of the surroundings. The waitstaff all shout at once when someone orders a special dish or when someone leaves. The atmosphere is unbeatable, although the prices are slightly higher than those at a traditional izakaya. Still, I recommend going and bringing your appetite and camera!
A friend arranged a dinner for our group of about 20 people at this restaurant, which is popular among coworkers from one of the embassies. Yes, Gonpachi gained brief fame from appearing in a Uma Thurman movie over 20 years ago, but does that justify it being a tourist trap? Each person paid 8000yen and received the following: 1 piece of salmon sashimi, 1 chicken skewer, 1 mystery meat stick, a plate of mystery greens to share, 1-2 croquettes, 1-2 deep fried shrimp scallions. Quite the feast, with a 20x markup on the food. The quality was slightly better than what you would find at an outdoor event or food truck, lacking special sauces or originality. The unlimited drinks were served in small 10oz glasses filled with ice. There was also a taiko show performed by non-professionals, lasting only 5 minutes and no more special than what you might see at a free festival performance by Japanese high school students. As for service, our group of 20 was shortchanged on food quantity and hit with a 10% surcharge for service, as well as being billed for 3 absent individuals. Fortunately, I did not organize the event, as I would not have chosen this pretentious tourist trap. If you simply must see a film location from a 20-year-old movie for 5 minutes, my advice is to stop by, snap a selfie, then dine elsewhere. If you feel the need to waste money, there's a convenience store nearby where you can find a lighter.
