The food is so simple, but the flavors combine is ways that will make you feel d for not having tasted them before now. Bring friends, order everything, sit on the porch, and loudly praise each dish when anyone walks by.
Portions are small so order an appetizer. Food was okay but not spectacular. I had the clams, but it was in such a small bowl I couldn't get to the potatoes and chorizo until I ate some of the clams. A larger bowl would have solve that problem. They could have used slightly more potatoes which were cut up into small pieces. I think they used about a third of a potato. Hardly a food cost problem. They brought my companion's food first and mine five minutes later. A definite food serving mistake. The atmosphere was nice and the staff seemed eager to please.
Mehhh. We had high hopes as we love Spanish food and wines. But the whole point of Tapas style eating is with wine/beer/cider but this place is too expensive to be a quick-bite tapas bar. Trying to be too fancy. And the “house” type restaurant common in Portland doesn’t work for tapas. “Homey” is not what i associate with tapas bar crawls in Spain.Meatballs were weirdly spiced.The steak was chewy and tough like rubber.Spanish omelette “tortilla” was barely set, and still uncooked in the center.Cocktails were also weak.I dunno, I can think of many better ways to waste your money on overpriced food in PDX. I wouldn’t go back or recommend
The staff were great and super accommodating. We sat outside and they did everything they could to make sure that we were comfortable. Needless to say, the food was delicious. There wasn’t one dish we didn’t want more of. Definitely add it to your Portland list of places to go ?
Yes Yes and so much YES ! We picked Brasa Haya for our V day dinner spot as it was one of the few places that doesn`t force you for a pre fixed menu . I made reservations and hence had no hang ups getting a seat even though the restaurant was full .We sat at the bar and the bartender was a delight to talk to . The place is small ish but doesn't feel too cramped .They have converted an old house to this hip yet cute restaurant and we were impressed at how intimate it felt . They also have outdoor seating and heaters. The food is Tapas style so we ordered a bunch of different things .we had Tortilla Espanolla OMG so so good .Its a tortilla piece stuffed with Potatoes , eggs and onion but the dish is just so melt in the mouth . Highly Recommended .5/5 Mussels on Toast Another great menu item .5/5 Coal Roasted Cabbage, Garum butter This dish did not impress me at all , just something about the cabbage was off putting . The very small portion of the sauce did not help either . 2/5 Abondigas The pork veal meatballs with almond sauce were another great menu item . 5/5 Patatas Bravas The Potatoes come drenched in sauce , it was a little tangy for us but definitely not bad . 4/5 Charred Onion Relish and smoked ricotta on Toast was another yummy option . 5/5 Poached Pear brown butter financier almond streusel was our dessert of choice and was recommended to us by the bartender and boy was he right . Such a fun dessert and went very well with the Brasa Carajillo . The Brasa Carajillo comes warm and is served with whipped cream . For drinks we had the Neblino Morado ,Domino IV and the Fall of Franco . Neblino Morado was exceptional and I would love to go back to have it again , even though I am not big Mezcal fan . I also really loved the beautiful glassware . The pricing is fair and the food quality justifies it but I can see it might come across as an expensive place due to the fine dining meet casual Portland vibe . With friendly and attentive service and great food on the menu, Brasa Haya is ready to take Portland's Spanish cuisine legacy forward especially since Covid closed down so many of our old favorites .
