You are given a menu and asked to order at their counter, but after that, they bring you water and drinks and actually check on you see how you like the food, see if they can bring you more bread etc. (nowadays you order at counter and get your own water and only see someone when they deliver your food and gone again) I have always had a great meal here (usually specials but last time PAPRIKA SCHNITZEL my friends favorites are SZEGEDIN GOULASH* and EMINCE ZURICHOISE . I love the spätzle and always order something with it fondue was delicious and the swiss onion soup very cheesy but made with a chicken base (I think) very good. I don't live close but it's worth the trip and a nice change from the typical restaurant foods. Small hidaway off Alberta street in Portland. Visit The Wine Cave close by on Alberta while you're there.
I'm not sure about why this place gets five stars. I give it three mainly because they were accommodating and friendly, but training is in order. I hate when wait staff keeps removing items from table and not asking if I'm done. They must have come over six times taking single items before I could stop them leaving me without a knife and the mustard I had them bring out. Food was just so so. My vegetable beef soup had little flavor and was bland. The sautéed chicken sandwich was small for $15 and the cabbage slaw that accompanied it tasted like cabbage with store bought salad dressing that was salty. My friend got the mushroom gravy with pork and French onion soup. Again, flavor was missing with the soup and the mushroom gravy tasted canned to me. Maybe we just hit a bad night. I won't be back because I wouldn't want to spent $50 on a mediocre meal again. The place is cute, clean and simple offering indoor and outdoor seating. At least they were very friendly which made it somewhat alright.
Great food and service! We got the Emince Zurichoise and Jagerschnitzel with spatzli. Both dishes were delicious! Portions are generous. Wish I had the stomach to finish all of it. Highly recommend this place!
This is the epitome of what I want to eat when I leave the house. Something comforting and made with love, and if I ever tried to recreate it would probably not even come close. It seemed family run and everyone was so sweet. It's very small inside however, so be prepared for a waiting list. I always get something thats saucy (which is most of the items) and you can't go wrong with the rosti or spaetzli. Love absolutely everything I've had here.
Best Swiss food in PDX abate expensive. unfortunately no Burlibrot. Service was very good. Interior seating is small without much ambiance. The patio is much better.
