I was a little skeptical because it said it was a school/ hotel/ theater/bar. But we went anyway. Walked in and there was a cute gift shop on the left. On the right was the hotel check in we followed the signs to the restaurant, food was a bit overpriced, service could be a little friendlier but that was a pattern we experienced in Portland. They had a soaking pool, open to the public and I guess the restaurant chain is owned by brothers and they buy buildings and create secret rooms. Nuff said check it out and buy some souvenirs! The black widow porter is delish!
Usually we love every McMenamins experience but this one was a bit off putting. The building and classroom style accommodations are unique and visually inspiring, the location was quiet, and the bar and restaurant is spot on, however the late evening host was a little course and literally said what is it? when we checked in. She clearly does not like her job and I never understood folks that continue to work at places they don 't enjoy. What really sucked was that our room was dingy, dirty, nor kept up well, damaged, and otherwise stained. The previous guest 's dirty clothes were still hanging up in the bathroom, the curtains were water stained, the paint was terribly chipped, the hardware was broken, and there was toothpaste splatter all over the wall by the bathroom sink. We own a historic hotel in southern Oregon and we can tell you that details like these are of paramount importance. Not recommended and come on you guys.
Great place to take kids. The theatre is cozy and affordable and beautiful.Lots to see and do inside.
A fun kitschy gem to visit in PDX, definitely a fun place and great novelty in seeing a school transformed into a brewery hotel. Staff here is super chill and accommodating. As for the beers, I had the trippy cider, kennedy School Kolsch, West of Da Mitten IPA, and the Gnome'r J Simpson Hazy IPA. The tripppy cider the hazy ipa were the true winners. However, I'm not a kolsch guy, and saw a ton of people ordering that
Good: Quiet area, good parking, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good neighborhood, comfy bed, walk to Safeway and a couple of restaurants. Bad: No fridge, microwave, TV. The AC is a little loud.
