During my most recent visit, I tried the Gobi 65 appetizer for around $8.49. It was a generous serving of perfectly spiced fried cauliflower, reminiscent of buffalo cauliflower. The coconut and tamarind sauces served alongside were delicious. For our main courses, I had a dosa while my husband had the bindi masala. He enjoyed the curry, which had a tomato and onion base with okra. Although I expected more okra, the dish was still very flavorful. I usually go to Sapthagiri for dosas, where you can get a dosa with potato filling and idly or vada for $8.99. At Chutneys, I tried the pesarattu dosa, which had spinach, cumin, and other flavors, but was disappointed that it lacked filling. It cost $7.99 and I finished it quickly. The dosa came with four condiments, with the tomato and sambar being my favorites. While I prefer the variety of dosas at Sapthagiri or Dosa Hut, I will definitely return to Chutneys to explore more of their menu offerings.
Chutneys is a fantastic addition to the authentic dining options on Newark Avenue. It is a vegetarian restaurant with separate vegan/kosher and Jain menus. During our recent visit, we ordered the gobi 65 appetizer for $8.49, which consisted of a generous portion of well-seasoned fried cauliflower. It reminded me of buffalo cauliflower and was absolutely delicious! The accompanying coconut and tamarind sauces were rich and flavorful. For our main dishes, I had a dosa and my partner had the bindi masala. He enjoyed the unique twist on the curry, which had a tomato and yogurt base with okra. I'm used to bindi masalas being heavier on the okra, but this version was still very tasty despite being a bit salty and oily. Normally I get dosas with potato filling at other restaurants for $8.99, but at Chutneys I tried the pesarattu dosa, which was filled with spinach and cumin. While the dosa itself was good, I was disappointed that it didn't have any filling and found it to be a bit pricey at $7.99. The accompanying spicy sides - sambar, coconut chutney, spicy tomatoes, and what seemed to be wheat cream - were all delicious. Overall, while I prefer the dosas at Sapthagiri or Dosa Hut for their greater variety, I will definitely return to Chutneys to try more of their menu offerings.
The vegetarian kebab kati roll night at this restaurant is fantastic. They also have a dinner buffet that features a range of North Indian dishes. Throughout the week, they offer various buffet themes such as dosa night and chat night.
I went to this restaurant on Tuesday night to try the buffet. I was a bit skeptical at first since the place was empty. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection of vegetarian dishes, all of which were delicious. I especially liked that you could request any type of dosa you wanted as part of the buffet. The tea was fantastic and the gulab jamun dessert was a delightful ending to the meal.
This restaurant offers a diverse selection of South Indian and North Indian cuisine. The dishes are exceptionally delicious and full of flavor. Located in the Indian Square area of Jersey City, it is a fantastic dining option. Despite reading some negative reviews about the ambiance and cleanliness, I found both to be satisfactory during my visit. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the food at this restaurant.
