After trying the menu composed for the season, I would say some elements on the plates served were excellent other ideas did not quite work. The...meat dish of veal was well cooked, but the different elements on the plate did not work well together. The fish dish with White Tuna on a bed of vegetables was very delicious. We enjoyed the evening topped with high quality staff, making sure you were comfortable.
We had dinner here at the beginning of August. My wife and I had the three course suggested menue with the wine recommendations and it was excellent. Our kids choose main course and dessert and were very pleased as well. My son thought that he...got the best Entrecote ever. We all where very pleased with everything but be aware that some of the staff only speak french and do the presentations of the food in french.
After a gastronomic journey to the south-west of France, we thought we would try to finish the trip on a high with a last nice dinner. After eating in a series of 3* Michelin restaurants, of course we had not expected the same fireworks, but also... we expected a very solid offer worthy of a star, unfortunately our expectations could no longer be placed wrong. We have made a last-minute booking here, as a number of other star facilities nearby have been fully booked; we should have taken the note! What we hoped was a good quality, old-fashioned cooking, what we got a number of invaluable dishes. The dining room itself deserves a mention as it has been modernized over the years, but instead of starting afresh every time, the items have been added or taken away, so it is something from a patchwork stepp of styles and epochs. This could unintentionally suggest that it is somehow charming to avoid doubt, it is not. The best thing about this restaurant is its wine card, the full of great wines of hard to find producers and vintages. It is absolutely excellent, but unfortunately the same cannot be said about food. Without the wonderful wine list, I would have given this a 3* rating. A quick detour if I might... we started this trip in a 1* Michelin restaurant with rooms that were fully embodied for me, what a 1* Michelin restaurant should be (see separate review), and naiv we hoped that this would share the same values, so were really surprised that the food was so unnoticed. Also the price point here (a similar rural location) was 25 % higher, so I do not think it is inappropriate to have the quality at least comparable. The Amuse Bouches were excessively fussy and tasty Bland and some actually had a rather unpleasant texture. Honestly, the meal would have been better without her. Despite ordering a EUR 99, 5 course menu, they have calculated a EUR 5 supplement for a mushroom first course. I have no problem with supplements at all, but EUR 5 is so small that it only feels small, and in this kind of restaurant I would have expected a supplement to begin more than this. Also, rather bizarre, since we are in the middle of the white truffle season, the menu was completely free from them. Anyway, back to dinner... first courses were quite bland, and the salmon of my wife had a somewhat unpleasant flaabby texture. There were a few better dishes, scallops with mousseron mushrooms and chestnuts, and a red Mullet dish both worked pretty well. The cheese car deserves a special mention as the cheeses were great, and the server had perfect knowledge to make their recommendations. That was probably the highlight of the meal. Then Dessert came and her signature was Mushroom Dessert. I'm never a fan of hearty items in a sweet dish, but in the evening before us we had only enjoyed that in a 3* Michelin restaurant and it had totally surprised us of its sheer brilliance, so thought we would give it back. That was a mistake. The dish was visually strong with some excellent and very fine blown sugar work (sometimes you rarely see in these days), but none of the elements of it had a particularly strong taste, and while nothing was really unpleasant, it tasted not great and we wish we had something else. The service of most employees was very good, although one or two clearly lacked experience in places. All in all, except the amazing wine list, there is little to recommend this restaurant. Its price point for food is not a good value, and especially the kitchen is very pedestrian, and certainly not what one would expect at this level. Also the hotel that belongs to this restaurant is a terrible relic, which is bad hospitality (both hard and soft product) so that simply gasoline poured onto the flames of disappointment. We will certainly not return.
We took friends to celebrate my birthday and had a nice evening. The staff was friendly, very professional, but not intrusive. The experienced sommelier recommended an excellent champagne and wine we really enjoyed. It is a nice restaurant for a special occasion, not too spicy.... The only disappointment was that the fish my wife and I had, Monkfish/Lott, was overcooked, hard and rubbery, but apart from that, the meal was excellent. We'll revisit with the family if we can.
An excellent meal in a charming environment with very good service! The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Perfect size components. To meet the owner/cook at the end of the meal was a bonus.
