We checked this place at 10:30 a.m. and there was already a bit of a line. after the order we just waited for about 20 minutes for our dinner. we have ordered a combi plate that is all 2 items for 22. we ordered their furikake crooked and calbi. the kalbi was super delicate and a bit sweet tasting. we really enjoyed the fish and the special sauce over them. the Mac salad was also pretty good. they serve breakfast here too. if they want to beat the long lines, they will best come during their non-peak hours. eating was good overall. prices a bit steep but overall great place for local teller lunch.
Definitely not disappointed! I have breakfast and lunch. the food was so fresh and tasty! and the cook was so nice! make them please and get them all! Yours will thank you for that!
I ordered the kalbi and fried poke combo, and it was absolutely delicious! The fish was perfectly cooked, and the kalbi was tender enough to eat with a fork. Both dishes had great flavor. The rice and mac salad were also very good and not overcooked at all. I saw the chef on "Street Food" on Netflix, and he is just as friendly in person as he appears on TV—I'm not sure how he manages that! It's impressive for someone who has gained such celebrity status to remain so approachable. I wish him all the best and can't wait to come back!
So I knew about this place for a long time but never went because I live in town and I was like one hour drive for a plate lunch, hell no . Then the GF and I saw the Netflix episode and figured we'd go play tourist, drive out to Kahuku and try DBG. It was a really good plate lunch. Positives: My GF always complains that most places don't peel their shrimp and DBG has Peeled butter garlic shrimp, yay! The boneless Kalbi is great. It was like kalbichim without the soup. So tender and tasty. I can't think of any food truck or take out place that does boneless kalbi like this. Mac salad is also good. Not sure what is in it but it has a unique flavor to it. Negatives: It was only 11:15 and the chopped steak, fresh fish and Cajun shrimp were sold out already so you might want to go early to make sure you get what you want. If you are a tourist and staying in Waikiki this is a very long drive so you should plan on making this a day trip and seeing other things on that side of the island. Also most plates are 16 but the 2 choice plate goes up to 22. Considering inflation at the time of this post I'd say it's a fair price but just want to warn others so they don't get sticker shock.
