I currently live 4 miles from the restaurant, but until a year ago, I was driving 15 miles to enjoy their Chinese food. While I can't say we moved to Kalama specifically for this restaurant, it did cross our minds. In short, the food here is fantastic.
Holy cow! It is almost worth the drive to Kalama WA to eat at this place! Service polite and attentive not overly so! The atmosphere was a bit old school Chinese, but everything was spotless. We ordered the Crab Puff as an appetizer and oh, so good! Also the Hot and Sour soup. Respectable, but not the best I have ever had. Let me get to the really good stuff... We ordered the Mu Shu chicken. Soooooo good. My friend had never tried it so it was fun to introduce her to this vegetable laden, so tasty dish. To top it off, we ordered the Sautéed String Bean, crispy and seasoned just right. Everything was really good. Warning: take lots of people if you are going to order like we did. We took more than half of the food home because the portions are huge!
This restaurant doesn't even deserve 1 star. The food was once wonderful, but not anymore. The fried rice was burnt, and the orange chicken came with a sauce that was really just watery with a hint of orange peel. I usually enjoy sweet and sour chicken, but the last time I had it, the sauce was runny and lacked flavor. I spent $100 on takeout, and it was completely disappointing. The batter on the shrimp wasn't cooked properly either.
This is my second favorite Chinese restaurant! My top choice is Green Tea Kitchen in Vancouver, WA, but it all depends on which one is closer to me!
The service was fast and polite. Perfect. Overall ambiance was clean and nice. Now the food. From worst to best. The pork fried rice was kind of bland for fried rice but served as a good base. The general Tso chicken had an amazing crisp with a sweet and a little spicy glaze, delicious. The black bean chicken was so tender and flavorful I wanted to lick the place clean. And the top, fer me, was the Kung pao beef. The beef was melt in your mouth tender, good crunch to the veggies and the sauce. Amazing! Ive never been before but I guarantee I will be back to try a whole new list of items.
