I've been here once before. Very eccentric in a non-threatening way with friendly staff and patrons. One must appreciate the amount of time it takes to create their signature drinks, as quality cannot be rushed. My kiddo and I decided to try their brunch here for the first time. (I've been wanting to go check out their brunch for a while! The pictures on their Instagram look amazing! There was a mini crowd of folks when we first arrived, with a mix of regulars and newbies alike. Looking around this place made me feel like I was simultaneously in an antique shop and 4th Coast from the late 90's. (That means I liked it She ordered their Cumberbatch Benedict with a matcha latte with oat milk. I ordered their Kurt Brussel with their chai tea latte. Everything was delicious. Will be back!
Located just on the eastern edge of downtown Kalamazoo, Black Owl is a hipster's hangout. The décor is fun, and the coffee, well, that's a work of art, too. Lee, the barista that I've seen, is a master craftsman. Delicious! The coffee is freshly roasted in small batches. Free wifi and friendly Lee a home office with beans. LOVE. Tip #1: Be sure to visit the bathroom (it's weird and wacky and hilarious). Tip #2: Want your Kalamazoo Coffee fix? It's roasted here, and you can also buy bags for friends (and yourself). Tip #3: New kitchen more deliciousness at Black Owl. Check their facebook page for info, new menu, and more. Note: There aren't many seats inside a few perches along the window, and a few tables. In warm weather, you can sit outside on their streetside deck!
Limited seating and it's always chilly in here. But a quality cup of coffee and friendly service. They lack on a good selection of baked goods or other treats to have with your coffee. Love the outdoor seating in the warmer weather.
Never been here and wanted to try it out. Very cute atmosphere, when you walk in you want to stay! You walk to the bar and order food/drink there. I was just coming for a coffee so I ordered the caramel vanilla. They definitely took their time making it which is appreciated for a $4 coffee. It came out with a lead pattern looking pretty, and tastes great! I didn't get food but someone near me did and it looks great! Plus also that they have a big parking lot, and outdoor seating.
