From Deutschlandia to Mar Vista When my partner in crime/dine found this little German bakery we had to go from skate to plate to check it out.Food wise there is a lot of variety. From sweet to savory, pretzel bun to burrito, and everything in between you 'll find both European and local flavors. My partner left satisfied from the side salad, which she could only describe as crunchy and fresh . For me, the French toast gave me damn I need to brush my teeth after this and yeah that hit spot feels. Also when you order tea they give you the whole pot. I like that :)Service was great! We actually had two waiters. Maybe they changed shifts or maybe they were really attentive. Either way they provided great recommendations and alternative treats.Prices are reasonable. You can order a ton or a little, add extra items on top, or just go for the basic route. It 's both a cafe and a brunch spot and the prices are pretty much in between both.Overall this is worth a stop. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning on the way to Autozone. Protip: if you don 't have time to wait there are plenty of tasty delights near the counter.
Bad use of space. This location isn’t suitable for the scale of this bakery anymore. There was a time when the neighborhood was a bit industrial but that’s no longer the case anymore. This business sort of made sense when the neighborhood wasn’t in transition, but now that it's becoming more of a destination, Rockenwagener is out of place. The major issue is every morning Rockenwagener has loading buses that block the bike lanes and hog the center turn lanes on Adams all morning long. It's probably time for them to relocate to a more suitable location. One where they are less of a burden on the local population who rely on the bike/turns lanes that are being blocked every morning.
Coffee and pastries are good but they're slow and sloppy. This is how my coffee was handed to me. And this was after seeing it sitting there in the counter next to the espresso machine for a full two minutes while the barista made other drinks. The person at the register had stepped away to bus a table, even though there were people waiting in line to order. I worked in restaurants and cafés for a very long time and I get that places are short staffed right now, but this was just poor communication. You don't step away from your station without telling the other person you're working with that they'll need to cover your responsibilities. At least to hand off a coffee. No excuse for the gross cup with dirty finger prints all over it.
I got a salad that was very very average. I expected more invention and creativity, or even a larger size too. Maybe it's the wrong thing to order the breads looked good but I think they need to up their healthy low carb options!
