From the moment you go for outdoor or indoor kitchen, you know that you have found the right place. The tradition of fine food and service is available. The menu is the area and its specialties including local items as well as wild boar and pepperlings. a seasonal mushroom). We loved the wine tasting next door.
We enjoyed a delightful lunch with friends from the area who have eaten here often. The ambience invites you to come and explore. Authentic Pfalz décor is coupled with an outdoor terrace with enormous umbrellas for pleasant shade. The menu offerings highlight regional fare prepared and presented with care. Both our dishes of chicken and of chanterelles exploded with flavor. Excellent local wines pair well with the menu. Considering the quality, prices were reasonable. This is not a tourist hangout, so be forewarned you may experience some language issues which can be challenging, but fun. Also, Spindler does not accept international credit cards, so prepare yourself with Euros. These two points do not dissuade us from wanting to return.
The folks at the hotel we were staying with, CLEO's recommended this place. It was so good that we we had 3 meals there. One lunch and 2 dinners. Can say enough good things about the food[ a mix of French and German, the local wines and the service. This is a very popular place with the locals so recommend you get a reservation especially for dinner. English is not a problem as the wait staff is pretty fluent and the menu is is in 3 languages including English. We had excellent food and service here. The venue is pretty large and has a wine store on the property. Right in the town of Kallstadt and with in easy walking distance of the local hotels.
Kallstadt is small enough to walk in twenty minutes and worth the look, yet this restaurant offered a wonderful array of German delicacies. Order the spinatknodel and Gewurtztraminer.
