This was our second time coming here for Mother’s Day brunch. The first time we were seated in the large main section, but I guess due to their growing popularity, we were seated in a large secondary room. We were still just as close to the buffet line, but this room did lack the large airy expanse and ambiance of the main area. The food was as excellent as always – all the regular brunch fare including delicious egg dishes prepared to order, fluffy pancakes, bacon and sausages, sliced fruit, assorted pastries, lovely salads, salmon, and a roast beef carving station. The desserts included some really great cakes and cookies, diced fruit, and mini crème brulees, mousses, etc. All of the serving staff were exceptionally polite and welcoming. This is probably one of the nicest brunches we’ve been to for quality of food, lovely setting, and warm and welcoming staff.
A nice quiet spot for a relaxing time, including Jazz on a Friday night, but good for early visits (lunch) too.
I had dinner this evening with my mom at The Ironstone Grill. We enjoy the entertainment there on Thursday nights and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance.Tonight we ordered an appetizer with our drinks and once our drinks were served we ordered salads. Our salads arrived and I asked about our appetizer. The server was puzzled and said we never ordered one. No big deal. We had food. We agreed she must not have heard us order.I had the Caesar salad with steak. Much to my disappointment, it was terrible. The steak was so fat filled and chewy that I could not eat it. The server asked how I enjoyed my meal and I advised that the steak was terrible. She told me that she had heard that before and what she always says is that " we are not a steak house"! I was truly disappointed. I was charged full price for the meal including the inedible pieces of steak.
We went as a group for the Easter Brunch at the Marshes. The restaurant is located in Kanata at the Marshes golf course. It has tall ceilings and large windows that overlook the course, with a nice rustic feel -- a very pleasant location for a meal. The Easter Brunch offered a decent range of dishes, from the usual breakfast fare (pancakes, waffles, omelettes, bacon, etc.) to salads, roast beef, etc. It wasn't an overly large spread, but everything was tasty. The dessert table was fabulous and decadent, with enough choice to meet everybody's needs. The fruit platters were a little sparse though, with basically just melons and pineapple (not a strawberry or kiwi in sight.)! Service was good.Overall, a great setting and a good meal. The price may have been a bit steep for what you got, but it was fun.
