Decided to try this place, as we like going to new places. When looking at reviews, I don't care what the decor of the place looks like, but what people say on the food. One negative review and two positive reviews. We went for prime rib (I would go down a star on this). We were there early on Saturday evening, and think that they heated up the meat from the night before. The taste was good, but my husband's was a little tough. I got the Italian Ravioli soup, and it was excellent. We'll go back, but not for the prime rib.
We've been to Fran's on 17, on Rt. 17 a few miles west of Kankakee, twice while passing through the area. The owners, Fran and Dewey, and their customers make you feel like you're a regular. Everyone is very friendly and includes you in the conversations. The owners remembered us from the last time we visited about six months previous and the conversation took off like we were there last week. The food is very good. We've had different items each time and everything has been great. We are looking forward to our next visit.
What a fantastic discovery on our way back from a day of hiking in Southern Illinois! I ordered the prime rib, accompanied by a baked potato, vegetables, and soup. There was so much food that I definitely needed a large takeout box. Everything was excellent and incredibly fresh! The cheese ball served with the meal was a delightful and tasty addition. My fiancé opted for the hamburger with fries, and he was equally impressed. The burger was massive and cooked to perfection, just as he likes it. The prices were very reasonable as well. Our waitress, whose name I believe was Bailey, was incredibly attentive and friendly. I would absolutely make the hour-long drive again just to dine at Fran’s!
I was very disappointed with my experience. The beer-battered fried cod was overly greasy, and my friend claimed that his Walleye was actually whitefish. The prices were high for such subpar food. I won't be returning.
