My Japanese friend and I stayed at Açai in November 2023 and it was definitely a highlight of our trip. Located in a rural area known for its hiking trails and hot springs, Açai offers the traditional ryokan experience with the added bonus of being completely vegan for both full and half board options. The owners are friendly and dedicated to a sustainable lifestyle, having renovated the Edo period house that was once home to a minor samurai family while still preserving its historical features. With a background in running a restaurant, the owners serve up spectacular seasonal dishes. The location is peaceful and surrounded by beautiful scenery, including the chance to spot monkeys during morning walks near the Oigawa historical training area. Other perks include a complimentary pick up from the station, the option to request food accommodations for allergies, and natural, fragrant-free toiletries. I highly recommend Açai for a unique and enjoyable stay.
