Contribuisci feedbackWe booked the cross because it was close, had a good safe parking space and had already great reviews. the place has not canceled! the building has been restored, but retains many original properties, color scheme and lighting very relaxing and creates an immediate feeling of quality that they will treat. the personal was very welcoming at the arrival and there is a nice bar area for a pre-dinner drink, if necessary or when they arrive early. in that the bar area would even be worth a visit if they did not eat. the bar is removed from all main dishes and so the two areas do not compete with each other. eating was traditional gastro pub, but that doesn't mean it was very high quality. what meant to us was that we wanted to get traditional dishes with a twsit here and there, but we did not search for a flaming volcanic or dry ice cream all over the table! the menu was very varied with traditional meat dishes, fish and veggie etc. the starter of a crispy egg with potato mouse and white esparagus was absolutely devine. the filtesteak was perfected and the jus was perfect, which meant that I didn't even ask for senf how I would have done with a run of the mill meal. the black shell with several different black cuts was also perfect and made with great aromen around. one of the most memorable points, however, was the butter for the broth. it is now clear that not all butter are the same! I finished the ladelling on my brot and it seems that the butter is made with a unique process. if this is the case, they have to tell anchor about it! Finally, our waitress was very good at eating and was able to describe the taste and assume that she actually tasted the dishes she served, which is a very good sign for me. she went into the effort to find the details about the butter (which might have been a strange question! . excellent value for this quality the restraunt and would hope to go back.
The Cross has recently been award a Michelin star. The new management and chef have moved this restaurant from a former position of being a good local restaurant to one making it a clear leader in the local area. There is plenty of choice even on a restricted lunch menu and there always seems to be a good, imaginative, vegetarian option The aim seems to be excellence at a reasonable price which is being achieved.
We went to The Cross for our anniversary A special Plate with white chocolate writing and chocolate truffles was presented to us after our 3 course meal free of charge The food was amazing the service was great Menu could have had one or two more options on but there was a good variation We look forward to coming back again
The food is always fantastic at the Cross but last Saturday's meal was the best yet. My fillet of venison with haggis, potato and bacon terrine and roast root vegetables was perhaps one of the best meals I have eaten in the last 5 years. Absolutely exquisite combinations of flavours and cooked to perfection. Simply superb.
A gem fantastic food (special mention for the pumpkin risotto and the venison). Have already booked next visit with more friends. It will be interesting to see how the menu changes because I don't want to eat the same thing every time and I'm not wild about beef cheek or pork belly!
