I was looking for an affordable place to eat along Anzac Parade near UNSW when I stumbled upon Curry Beans (also known as Mena Tandoori). It is situated on a street with a burger shop, an Indonesian eatery, and a Latin eatery, all reasonably priced. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by the owner who took my order for takeout. I opted for chicken tikka masala and beef vindaloo over rice, tandoori chicken, and naan bread. The total came to $14.50, which is half of what I usually spend on dinner in Sydney. The portions were generous, and the food was tasty. The chicken tikka masala was standard, but the beef vindaloo had a good amount of heat. The rice and naan were average. Overall, it was a satisfying meal and I will definitely be returning to Curry Beans in the future.
I recently stopped by this restaurant for dinner, as it was conveniently located on my way. I had noticed it before and made a mental note to give it a try. The restaurant has a simple layout and atmosphere, offering both fast food and a la carte options at reasonable prices. The service was average, and I ordered a lamb biryani which was served in a generous portion but lacked in quality. I was informed that the chef (possibly the owner) is from Bangladesh. However, what disappointed me was the loud argument between the management and the chef when they had female customers near my table, completely disregarding my presence. This went on for a while, which was off-putting. I am unsure if I would return to this restaurant in the future.
Dropped in somewhat serendipitously on a night when most other places on Anzac Parade were closed and were more than pleasantly surprised (we actually returned twice that week!). Family run and operated, extraordinarily friendly, yummy dishes (of which we tried several!) and great value for money. More functional than atmospheric deco though.
