Banmaai - Kiel

Banmaai is a wonderful Thai restaurant with Ambiente, top service and most of all a menu of Thai wok and curry dishes that must find its equal in Germany let alone Kiel. I dine quite regularly at the Banmaai and have never been disappointed in trying something new almost every time.

After some time calling for reservation from new opening time and always get fully booked, today we ware there on Thursday without reservation and we got a table, the restaurant is not full at all. We had starters with shrimps sauer soup & chicken cocos soup, that was all ok. The main courses was not the right choice when we had Tuna Steak with salat and souse in Thai art, and Thai chicken curry... they are not like we expected, the fish was very hard, no taste and dry, the souse is very salty so we have to take a lot of rice together. The curry is very salty. We maybe try again another dishes another time, but never again Tuna & curry here. Service is ok, but there are so many different staff who serve one table so it is for us not cosy and we fell like we sit at a fast food restaurant, even the restaurant are decorative trendy cosy style.

Banmaai was recommended to us by our Airbnb hosts and it became my highlight of Kiel. The decor is superb, and the ambience nice and chilled. I ordered a green curry and was blown away by it - it's almost as good as the ones I had in Thailand. My boyfriend went for the Pad Thai and same goes there. Since we're both vegetarian we were happy to see a lot of veggie options, and the price was good. I went back for lunch and ordered something I had no idea of, and was equally impressed. Definitely worth a try.

2nd visit, been generally disappointing has what seems to be all good things nice decor ..glass wall into kitchen (looked like Thai Chief's) but service and waiting for drinks very and I do mean very slow ...last time there the food arrived before drink ordered when sat down !! Both time starter has not been good ...red duck curry while a very nice duck dish with lots a good things is no where near a Thai red duck curry ...mates chicken green curry looked like a stew that had been 'this'd But pad Thai was excellent hence up to 3 stars from 2No English menu and although waiter spoke English no help with menuNo credit cards although no sign for this (will accpect German debit card only)Would only go back for a pad Thai if local and hungry if you want good Thai food avoid

A place of a lot charm. The decor is nice. The food is exotic with strong taste. Spicy is good spicy. The duck with mango is to die for.
