1luv - Killeen

1Luv offers the most authentic Jamaican food in Texas. I first tried the steamed red snapper and have been going back every day since. I bring my fellow US Army soldiers with me because everything on the menu is delicious. The brown stew snapper, steamed snapper, escovich snapper, curry shrimp, jerk chicken, oxtails, brown stew chicken, and curry chicken are all favorites among my group. The staff, specifically Ozzy and the lady at the front, provide amazing customer service. I always start my mornings with ackee salt fish, although I wish they offered porridge. I will miss this place when I leave Fort Hood, as it truly is the best restaurant around.

I have to tell you all, 1Luv Island Restaurant is the top Jamaican restaurant in Killeen. The food is consistently fresh and of great quality! I thoroughly enjoyed my oxtails and rice and peas. I wish I could turn back time (max 20 minutes) just to have that plate all over again. LOL.

The food at 1Luv Island Restaurant was delicious, especially the oxtail plate we ordered. However, the atmosphere inside was a bit strange. When we arrived, we noticed an older black lady laughing and joking with another customer, but when it was our turn to order, she seemed uninterested and gave us a blank stare. On the bright side, the older gentleman in the back who prepared our order was friendly and even showed us the plates. Overall, the restaurant could benefit from finding a more welcoming host/cashier.

I also bring my fellow US Army soldiers with me and we all enjoy the brown one-pot snapper, steamed snapper, escovich snapper, curry garnels, and large curry garnels. Unlike other restaurants, they do not serve small baby garnels. My favorite dishes are the jowl, ochs, browntails, and brown-blacks. I always start my morning with the delicious ackee salt fish. The only thing missing from the menu is porridge. I will miss 1luv when I am stationed elsewhere, you are the best!

If you want to experience the best ox tails on the planet, then you must visit this restaurant. I am 42 years old and have never tasted anything more delicious. The rice with peas and cauliflower is an added bonus. I dine here several times a week, just don't tell my kids about it.
