I have to say the renovations have made the ambiance much nicer, love the new tables and reworked ventilation. We were here for breakfast, and I do like the reworked menu. I was a little taken aback by the price of the tacos, given that there is only one per order, so I passed on that and ordered huevos rancheros. The food was tasty, but it was a little cold when it arrived at our table. I really loved the breakfast potatoes, but again, they were served cold. My husband had an omelette, which was also good, but wasn't served with any toast. Just an omelette and potatoes. The presentation of the food definitely needs a little work. It's just sort of put on a plain plate. I would suggest adding those extra touches to your presentation, and adding toast to the breakfast platters, as that's a basic expectation. We will try it again, just to see if there has been any improvement to the food and service over the previous management (Grand Central).
Back in Texas and always enjoy having drinks and dinner at Grand Central Cafe yep the Chainsaw Massacre movie House . They have some signature drinks our daughter liked her train wreck their version of a Long Island Ice Tea. It 's a Texas thing so you need to try the Chicken Fried Steak yes with gravy and mashed potatoes. Theirs is excellent just the correct taste of pepper and they must use bacon drippings great taste. Very large portion get a to go box. Others had their chicken and mushrooms (two pieces of chicken). Yep another to go box. Good food good service interesting house try this. Also open for breakfast and lunch.
!!!! This is not Grand Central Cafe anymore!!! Review is for Hooper's. The new restaurant that replaced this one with new owners. Food was absolutely terrible. Traditional eggs Benedict had smoked bacon and smoked paprika on it making it much more sweet than savory. Worst eggs Benedict I've ever had. My sister's biscuit was completely burnt and blackened on the bottom and her sausage was dried out and bland. They didn't have their entrees available because of kitchen remodel. We drove out of our way to get their chicken fried steak and crabs cake Benedict but they removed the crab cake from the menu and could not serve the chicken fried steak. We've had better complimentary breakfasts at Hampton inn than here. Staff were good. But I will not be back because the food was so terrible. Apparently they're not even the same restaurant and are under new ownership. They're now called Hooper's.
We made a trip to Austin for my 30th birthday and immediately upon touch down we made our way to Kingsland to see Grand Central Cafe because my favorite movie is THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Firstly, it was beyond words to see this place. I mean, I was literally speechless. Besides the touristy parts the staff was amazing! They were so cool and even gave us some stickers for my birthday and just let us roam the house. I got the **** Massacre which had a warning that it was hot and indeed, it was HOT. Luckily I like spicy so if you're into that, order it!
This place is pretty cool steaks are good. Only thing colder than the baked potato was the beer. The area is beautiful though I live 45 minutes away from here and I've never took the time to visit this area but now that I know it I will be back.
